Design and Working Principle of the Distraction
System
Rotterdam Midline
The distractors Rotterdam Midline and Bologna Midline consist of a distractor corpus D and the
connected osteosynthesis plates P1 and P2. The Bologna Midline Distractor also has a vertical
steel connection for dental anchoring.
The activation point A is located in the center of the distractor corpus D. The activation key is
inserted into the respective opening of the activation point in order to activate the distractor.
An arrow on the distractor corpus indicates the direction in which the activation key S must be
turned in order to move osteosynthesis plates P1 and P2.
When activating the distractor by turning the activation key according to the arrow directions
indicated, both osteosynthesis plates P1 and P2 are moved outwards from the center
(see Fig. 9-1).
