Operation (cont'd)
Check 1 to 5 Volt Inputs without Disconnecting Wires
Select the Source mode by pressing the SOURCE/READ button until "SOURCE" appears on the
display.
Display: V, mV
Most 1 to 5 V receivers in 4 to 20 mA loops have a 250 ohm resistor across the input of the
receiver. This resistor may be mounted internally or externally. The IPM-300 is connected
directly across the input of the 1 to 5 V receiver without disconnecting any field wiring. Ensure
that changing the signal input will not disturb the process or cause unexpected alarms when
checking on-line instruments. To produce the desired voltage across the device input, the
IPM-300 will source or sink current up to its limit of > 20 mA.
Note: The IPM-300 drives only the device to which it is connected. It has no effect on other
devices in the 4 to 20 mA loop.
1.
Turn the Selector knob to VDC.
2.
Connect the black and red leads to the meter as shown.
3.
Press the RANGE/TYPE button to select V.
4.
Connect the red lead of the meter to the plus (+) input of the device and the black lead to
the minus (-).
5.
With the toggle switch at SET, adjust the output to the desired value.
6.
Flip the toggle switch to HI or LO to use the stored values. See the Storing Output Values
section to change the stored values.
Note: Any associated 250 ohm resistor must not be disconnected.
