Power Entry Module Connection and Configuration: The connection to
the power entry module is a standard IEC plug. This is where AC power for
the VDM100 internal tank heaters is connected. This AC power is only for the
tank heaters. lt does not supply power to any of the internal electronics in the
VDM100. Without this power, however, the VDM100 will not operate properly
since there will be no power available to heat the supplied Dl water until it
reaches the vapor state. It is critical that the supplied AC power and the
power entry module configuration match. The factory default configuration
for the power entry module is to accept 230 Vac. lf the power entry module is
configured for 230 Vac and the supplied AC power is 115 Vac, the tank
heaters will not operate properly. lf this scenario is reversed (230 Vac supply,
115 Vac configuration), the fuses will blow and will require replacement. To
verify the configuration of the power entry module, simply look at the fuse
drawer window (see description in Section 1.6 Bottom View). lf what is
displayed in the fuse drawer window does not match the supplied AC power, it
will be necessary to change the power entry module configuration as follows:
1. Make certain that there is no AC power connected to the power entry
module and that the ON/OFF switch is in the "Off" or "O" position. lf AC
power is not disconnected there is a risk of electrical shock.
2. Using a small flathead screwdriver, gently pry open the fuse drawer cover.
3. Using the same small flathead screwdriver, gently pry the fuse drawer out of
the socket in the power entry module until it can be removed by hand. Note the
orientation of the fuse drawer as it is removed.
4. Rotate the fuse drawer 180" from the way it was removed.
5. Re-insert the fuse drawer into the socket. lt will take a small amount of force
by hand to make the fuse drawer seat properly in the socket.
6. Close the fuse drawer lid. Again a small amount of force by hand will be
required to completely close the lid.
7. Look at the fuse drawer window to verify that what is now displayed
matches the supplied AC power. lf so, proceed with the rest of the electrical
connections process. lf not, then repeat these steps.
To replace the fuses in the fuse drawer, these same steps can be followed with
the exception of step 4. lt will be necessary to re-insert the fuse drawer into the
power entry module socket in the same orientation as it was removed.
Note that if the fuses need to be replaced, make certain that the reason
fuses were blown is found and corrected.
There is one more optional electrical connections for using the GUl. This
connection is not required for VDM100 operation. This connection will be
explained in Section 2.11 RS485 Communication.
Assuming that the user connections meet the above mentioned requirements,
the following steps can be taken to complete the installation of the VDM100:
1. Make certain that the VDM100 is properly mounted and that all mechanical
connections have been properly made. Refer to Sections 2.8 and 2.9 earlier
in this manual.
2. Make certain that the ON/OFF switch in the power entry module is in the
"Off" or "O" position.
3. Connect the tool interface DB-15 receptacle to the lnput/Output DB-15 plug
