Protection Features
Moisture Sensor
When the system is equipped with an optional Franklin Electric Moisture Sensor,
the drive stops pumping and displays Fault 25 (F25) if the sensor detects the pres-
ence of water. The Moisture Sensor connects to the Wet Sensor terminal block.
NOTE: This does not replace the need for a pressure relief valve in the system. Re-

Over Temperature Foldback
The system is designed for full power operation in ambient temperatures up to 104 °F (40 °C) at nominal
input voltage. In high temperature conditions (above 104 °F / 40 °C) the VFD reduces output power in
an attempt to avoid shutdown or damage; however, product life and system performance will still be re-
duced. A thermometer icon is shown in the display when the VFD is in Over Temperature Foldback
mode. Full output power is restored when the internal drive temperature cools to a safe operating level.
NOTE: Motor over-temperature sensing is not provided by the drive.
Motor Soft Start
When the drive detects that water is being used, it starts and increases the motor speed gradually, in-
creasing voltage, resulting in a cooler motor and lower start-up current compared to conventional water
systems. In situations where the demand for water is small, the system may cycle on and off at low
speed. Because of the soft start feature, this will not harm the motor or the pressure sensor.
Motor Overload Protection
The VFD electronics provide motor overload protection by preventing motor current from exceeding the
maximum Service Factor Amps (SFA) programmed in settings.
Broken Pipe Protection
When DIP switch 1-6 is enabled, the Broken Pipe Detection feature will stop the system and display Fault
14 if the drive runs at full speed without reaching the configured broken pipe pressure setpoint.
•
For example, if the feature is enabled and the pressure is set to 25 psi, and if the VFD runs at full
speed with pressure less than 25 psi for 10 minutes, the VFD will stop and fault on F14. Manual reset
is required.
•
If the system is used with a sprinkler system or is being used in an other high-flow system, this pro-
tection feature should be disabled.
•
This feature can also be enabled and adjusted using the mobile app.
IMPORTANT: The Broken Pipe Pressure setting must always be a value lower than any active Setpoint
pressure setting.
Underload Protection
The Underload Off Time determines how long the drive will wait before attempting to run following an
Underload event. The default time is Smart Reset (5 minutes, but double the time for each subsequent
reset attempt), but is user-adjustable through programming or via the mobile app from 5 minutes to 24
hours. Longer minimum off times are suggested for surface applications.
