Fig. 23. Following unfastening of all catches (10) according to arrow „I", remove the filter cover (1) from the container (11)
according to arrow „II". The top magazine (9) with sponge (24) and container cover (23) will probably stay in the cover (1),
but it is easy to take it out.
Pour out the rest of the water from the container (11). Using the grips, one by one remove all magazines (9) with the filtra-
tion media. Clean the container (11). For convenience of this operation – in case of types FZKN 500 PLUS and 700 PLUS –
we recommend to first take out the flow cover (12) and the UV sterilizer. The manner of execution of this action is described
under sterilizer maintenance in section 7.5. When you have finished cleaning the container, mount the sterilizer along with
the flow cover (12) back in the container according to section 5.2, see description in connection with figures 5-6.
• The top magazine (9) (in case of FZKN 700 and FZKN 700 PLUS the two top magazines) contains phenol-free spon-
ge, which collects mechanical impurities from the aquarium and in this connection it clogs up with time, gradually
limiting output of the filter pumps. The speed of this process depends on many factors (e.g. capacity of the aquarium,
„density" of the fauna and flora). Initially we recommend performance of maintenance of the filtration media after 2
months, and then according to your own experience. Under the maintenance procedure, the sponge should be wa-
shed in chloride-free water (e.g. collected from the aquarium) or replaced with a new one (the sponge is adapted for
repeated use). Aside from mechanical filtration, the sponge – due to its porous structure – may host bacterial cultures,
similarly as the ceramic filtration insert, and therefore contribute to biological purification of water;
• SpikeBalls Mini – The essence of their operation is differentiation of oxygen conditions for biological processes. The
external surface of the spheres has oxygen conditions favorable for processes of oxygenation of organic compounds.
The internal surface of the sphere acts as an anoxic micro-reactor, where processes of reduction of organic compo-
unds take place, which in turn allows for very effective water purification. Similarly as with the ceramic filtration insert,
it is sufficient to wash it once in six months in chlorine-free water (e.g. taken from the aquarium) or replace half of the
insert.
• Zeolite (ZeoWonder) – a crystalline porous silicate – is a natural mineral of large surface of open pores, serving for
adsorptive collection of toxic substances such as ammonia. It also serves as a ion exchanger and catalyst, as well water
softener. It also participates in biological cleaning of water, because it favors development of bacteria decomposing
organic waste. Its adsorptive properties are exhausted – depending on the fauna and flora in the aquarium – within
1-3 months. After the lapse of this time it should definitely be replaced;
• Ceramic filtration insert (BioCeraMax Pro or UltraPro) is – owing to its huge porous surface area – a perfect seat for
bacterial cultures, responsible for decomposition and removal of organic waste from the tank, including toxic nitrates
and phosphates. It is sufficient to wash it once every six months in chloride free water (e.g. taken from the aquarium)
or replace half of the insert;
After performance of the operations described above, place the filtration inserts in the container (11), taking into account
the notes made in section 5.3.
Prior to closing of the filter cover, you should perform maintenance of the cover (1) according to section 7.3.
7.3. Maintenance of complete cover – including the pumps
Fig. 24÷25. Remove the de-aerating hose (4) and the internal bend (5) from the covers of the rotor chambers (6) and (7).
The hose (4) need not be disconnected from the valve (2), because it would later be inconvenient to put it back on [see
figure 25.]. With a twisting motion remove the covers of the rotor chambers (6) and (7). Remove the rotors (15).
Cleaned the removed elements – rotors, covers of rotor chambers and the internal bend – and the rotor chambers and
rotor seats. Check the flow capacity of the hose (4). It is recommended to carry out these actions by flushing with water
under pressure (you can use a bathtub shower hose).
The ceramic axles (22) are very durable and may be used for a long period of time, therefore it is worthwhile to handle
them carefully. There is no need for removing these axles during each time filter maintenance.
CAUTION: In case of hard deposits on the walls of rotor sockets, impossible to remove with water under pressure, parti-
cular caution must be exercised in cleaning these fragments in order not to break the axles (22).
Fig. 26. In case of possible fracture of axle, it must be replaced [Spare axles are available from the entire trade network of the
manufacturer]. For this purpose:
• push out the remains of the broken axle (22) from the rear side of the motor according to the arrows in the figure (it is
possible that this may require considerable force),
• carefully clean the axle seat,
• place o-rings (21) on the mounting of the new axle (22), lubricate them slightly with Vaseline and carefully push into pla-
ce in the aperture, preferably from the same rear side [after lubrication of the seals it can be easily done with the thumb].
Remove the main gasket (8) from its groove, clean both the gasket and its groove in the cover (1). Lubricate slightly with
Vaseline and replace in the groove [see e.g. figure 24].
