► Read the documentation carefully before carrying out specific work, for example, commissioning,
operation, transport, and maintenance.
► Use suitable means to protect yourself and bystanders from the hazards listed in the documentation.
► Store the documentation within easy reach of the device for reference and enclose all documents
when passing on the product.
► Consult the documentation on additional welding components.
► Observe the local accident prevention regulations.
► Keep the work area in order. Ensure good lighting of the work area.
► For disposal, observe the local regulations, laws, provisions, standards, and directives.
► Only trained specialists should commission, operate, and service the device. Qualified personnel are
persons who, based on their special training, knowledge, experience and due to their knowledge
of the relevant standards, are able to assess the tasks assigned to them and identify possible dangers.
Safety instructions for electrical components
► Check electric tools for damage and ensure that they function properly and in accordance with their
designated use.
► Do not expose electric tools to rain and avoid a moist or wet environment.
► Protect yourself from electric shock by using insulating mats and wearing dry clothing.
► Do not use the electric tools in areas subject to fire or explosion hazards.
Safety instructions in relation to laser radiation
The device is equipped with the following laser-related safety features:
— Fail-safe indicator on the sensor head
— Device for additional laser warning lamps
— Key switch
— Additional connector for deactivating the laser
 7.2.3 Establishing the electronic connections to the breakout board on page EN-14
 8.3.1 Laser warning LEDs on page EN-20
The device emits laser radiation with laser class 3R (EN 60825-1:2019). Laser devices can generate highly
intensive, strongly concentrated radiation within the visible, infrared or ultraviolet spectrum. Laser radiation
can also have photochemical, thermal and optomechanical influences that can be hazardous to health.
Looking directly at the laser beam, a targeted reflection of the laser beam or even a reflection of the laser
beam in a reflective surface can cause irreparable eye damage.
► When operating the sensor ensure that suitable precautions are taken to prevent directly looking at the
laser beam.
► Never look at the direct or reflected laser beam. Also ensure that third parties are never exposed to the
laser beam or its reflections.
► Avoid prolonged periods of viewing diffuse laser beam reflections (> 10 s).
► Maintain safety clearances of at least 50 cm.
► The device must only be operated by trained specialists who are able to identify potential risks or
interferences due to pertinent experience with the operation of laser systems and appropriate
knowledge of the standards to be observed and safety precautions required.
► Maintain a minimum clearance of ≥1 m from the operator's eye when installing and commissioning the
sensor if a laser is activated.
► The device must only be used with a robot or in systems with a fixed processing device and moving
workpieces.
Targeted back reflections can occur when working with reflective materials. The laser beam's reflections on
the working material can damage your skin and eyes. Operating personnel should always take at least one
of the following precautions when working in the vicinity of the sensor's transmission opening:
► Wear safety goggles with a 573–740 nm plastic filter.
► Switch off the device.
► Switch off the laser and remove the button for activating the laser. Check the status of the <LAMP>
indicator on the sensor head and housing.
