3 Scope of delivery
► Ensure that the device is integrated into the system's laser safety circuit as it does not have a safety
function of its own.
► The sensor is generally used with a system control device that contains hazardous voltages
(110 V/220 V AC). Disconnect the system from the mains prior to opening the control device's cover.
The control device must be grounded.
The device can only switch on and the laser can only be activated if the sensor is connected to a processor
via the breakout board. As a class 3R laser is used, all class 3R systems must have a key-operated main
switch.
► Ensure that the key for the main switch can be removed. It must not be possible to switch on the laser if
the key switch is disabled.
► The sensor itself does not have a key switch. Connect the sensor to the breakout board. The sensor's key
switch functionality can be integrated into a processor, machine or robot via the breakout board.
2.5 Product-specific safety instructions
The device is designed for use on a controller (e.g. a robot). The device is subjected to constant
accelerations. If the device or device components are improperly attached, a risk of injury from ejected parts
ensues.
► Ensure that the device is securely attached.
► Allow workpieces, device components and system components to cool down prior to touching them.
► Wear suitable protective equipment, e.g. protective gloves.
► Switch on the coolant supply as soon as you switch on the device.
► Note the manufacturer's specifications with regard to coolant.
► Do not use the device without the replaceable protective window. Do not start the welding process if the
spatter protector and replaceable protective window are not correctly attached. Any damage to the
internal sensor window will permanently impair the system performance.
► During the welding process, always operate the device with an air or shielding gas supply to protect it
against welding fumes and spatter. Ensure that clean, dry, oil-free air or gas is fed into the hose
connections on the top of the device housing. Oil or water in the air supply damages the sensor optics.
It is important for the sensor to be sufficiently cooled. The sensor head is equipped with a special
quick-release plate/cooling element that can be used to air-cool or liquid-cool the sensor. This must be used
if the welding process generates a high level of heat.
2.6 Safety instructions on the mains connection
Incorrectly laid cables and hoses are trip hazards and can cause malfunctions (e.g. due to cable breakage).
► Ensure that cables and hoses are correctly laid.
► Regularly check cables for damage and replace damaged cables immediately.
2.7 Personal protective equipment
► Wear your personal protective equipment (PPE).
► Do not wear loose fitting clothing or jewelry.
► Ensure that others in close proximity are also wearing personal protective equipment.
The protective equipment comprises protective clothing, laser goggles with a 573–740 nm plastic filter,
protective gloves, safety shoes, ear protectors, a welding helmet with proper protection against radiation
and heat, and, if necessary, a respiratory mask.
