GEAR LUBRICATION

Your SKILSAW tool has been properly
lubricated and is ready to use. When
required, it is recommended that the gears
be re-lubricated only with SKILSAW lubricant:
No. 80111 (8 oz. tube). Always check the oil
level before using the saw. With a new saw,
change the oil after the first ten hours of use.
At a minimum, the oil should be changed
once a year under heavy use, or after
approximately 60 hours of use.
To check and add oil: Remove the power
plug from the power source. Place the saw on
a flat, stable surface. Lock the slide and leave
the saw head in the up position. Remove the
oil plug with a ½" wrench. Check to ensure
that the oil is not below the level of the
threads. If necessary, add fresh SKILSAW
lubricant (No. 80111).
NOTICE: If the oil is dirty or thick, replace the
oil.
To replace the oil: Run the tool for one
minute to warm the oil. Remove the power
plug from power source. Lock the sliding
head in the forwardmost position. Place an
oil catchment under the front of the gear box.
Remove the oil-drain plug and tip the saw
forward into the oil catchment until the oil is
drained. Replace the oil-drain plug. Add oil as
instructed above.

MAINTENANCE AND LUBRICATION

CARBON BRUSHES

The brushes and commutator in your tool
have been engineered for many hours
of dependable service. To maintain peak
efficiency of the motor, it is recommended
to examine the brushes every two to six
months. The brushes should be free from
dust and dirt. Brushes should be replaced
when they have worn down to 3/16" in length.
The brushes should slide freely in and out of
the holders without sticking.
To check brushes:
1. Disconnect the plug from the power source.
2. Remove the brush caps on the motor
housing by rotating them, using either a
short screwdriver or a quarter, then finish
removing the brush by hand. Note which
way the brush faces, so that it can be
returned to its original position.
3. Clean the brush holder opening with
compressed air or a clean cloth.
4. Replace the brush and cap. Only genuine
SKILSAW replacement brushes specially
designed for your tool should be used.
Shadowlight
For the best Shadowlight performance,
perform the following maintenance regularly.
Carefully clean sawdust and debris from
Shadowlight lens with a cotton swab.
DO NOT use solvents of any kind; they may
damage the lens.
Dust build-up can block the Shadowlight
and prevent it from accurately indicating the
line of cut.
Pitch and debris on the blade can interfere
with the Shadowlight accuracy and prevent
it from accurately indicating the line of cut.
Follow the miter saw's instruction manual
to remove and install the blade. With blade
removed from saw, clean pitch and build-up
from blade.
