6 Electrical Connection
Requirements:
☐ The supply voltage must be protected with a circuit breaker of type B16A.
☐ In TT systems, the supply voltage must be additionally protected by means of a residual-current device.
☐ The supply voltage must be disconnected.
Cable requirements:
☐ Conductor cross-section: from 1.5 mm
☐ Conductor material: Copper
☐ The cable for the supply voltage must also include a grounding conductor.
☐ The cable must be suitable for the permitted grid voltage (see Section 11, page 51).
Procedure:
1. Insert the cable into the Fuel Save Controller (see Section 9.1, page 47).
2. Strip the cable.
3. Strip 15 mm to 18 mm of the insulation from the cable's insulated conductors. When doing so, ensure that no
pieces of cable fall into the enclosure.
4. Connect the insulated conductors to the connecting terminal plate. If the conductors are stranded wires,
additionally pretension the springs of the spring-cage terminals using a screwdriver (see Section 9.2, page 48).
• Connect the line conductor to connecting terminal plate X300 terminal 1.
• Connect the neutral conductor to connecting terminal plate X300 terminal 2.
• Connect the grounding conductor to connecting terminal plate X300 terminal 3.
5. Ensure that the insulated conductors are firmly in place.

Connecting the Switches to the Switch Inputs

Destruction of gensets due to insufficient reserve power
Once the SMA Fuel Save Controller and inverters have stopped, the inverters are no longer available as energy
supplier. Now only the gensets supply the loads. If the current reserve power of the gensets is insufficient for
supplying the power required by the loads, the gensets become overloaded and may be destroyed as a result. In
any case, genset overload leads to the failure of the electricity supply.
• Prior to stopping the Fuel Save Controller, always check whether the current reserve power of the gensets is
sufficient to cover the requirement of the loads.
– If the current reserve power of the gensets is insufficient, switch off the loads or connect additional gensets.
This increases the reserve power of the gensets.
• If the sufficient reserve power of the gensets cannot be ensured during operation, do not use the switching input
DI 7 of the Fuel Save Controller (Fast Stop contact of the inverters).
Damage to signal generators due to voltage at the switching input
A DC voltage of 24 V is present at the switching inputs. This means that you can connect potential-free signal
generators, such as switches, to the switching inputs without an additional voltage source. All connected signal
generators must be suitable for 24 V and free of potential. Improper signal generators can be damaged.
• Make sure that the signal generator is suitable for 24 V.
• Make sure that the signal generator is potential-free.
