Destruction of the measuring module due to short circuit
If a voltage measurement is connected to a measuring module in the Fuel Save Controller in a four-conductor utility
grid, and a voltage converter is not interconnected, there must not be a conductive connection between the neutral
conductor and grounding conductor. A conductive connection between the neutral conductor and the grounding
conductor can occur by inserting a jumper and then can result in a short circuit during commissioning. The measuring
module is destroyed when a short circuit occurs.
• If a voltage measurement without a voltage converter is connected to measuring module 1 in the four-conductor
utility grid, make sure that the jumper between the terminals X200:4 and X200:5 has been removed.
• If a voltage measurement without a voltage converter is connected to measuring module 2 in the four-conductor
utility grid, make sure that the jumper between the terminals X200:9 and X200:10 has been removed.
• If a voltage measurement without a voltage converter is connected to measuring module 3 in the four-conductor
utility grid, make sure that the jumper between the terminals X200:14 and X200:15 has been removed.
When using a storage system in photovoltaic diesel hybrid systems: Measurement of PV power via
the measurement inputs of the Fuel Save Controller
If a storage system is implemented in the photovoltaic diesel hybrid system, the Fuel Save Controller has to
calculate the setpoints of the storage system for the charging and discharging of the battery depending on the PV
power. To correctly calculate the setpoints, the Fuel Save Controller requires the data of the PV power in a very
high temporal resolution.
For this, a current measurement input and a voltage measurement input of the Fuel Save Controller or of the
optional Data Acquisition Module must be used for capturing the PV power. The data transmitted via the internal
communication network of the PV diesel hybrid system do not have the required resolution.
In the basic configuration, only the terminals X200:1 to X200:6 are available for voltage measurement (see
Section 6.1.2 "Interior View", page 19).
Requirements:
☐ The connected local utility grid must be a four-conductor or a three-conductor utility grid according to its grid
type(see Section 6.7.1 "Setup of the current and voltage measurement", page 26). If another grid type is used,
the connection of the voltage measurement must be coordinated with SMA Solar Technology AG.
☐ Only one grid type must be connected per measurement module.
☐ If measurement takes place via voltage converters in a three-conductor utility grid, the neutral conductor at the
voltage converter input must be grounded separately. When doing so adhere to the voltage converter
specifications (refer to the voltage converter documentation).
☐ When using a voltage converter, the phase shift generated by the voltage converter may not exceed 1 (see the
documentation of the voltage converter).
☐ The cable must be protected in accordance with the locally applicable standards and directives.
☐ The requirements for the measurement inputs of the Fuel Save Controller must be complied with (see Section 11
"Technical Data", page 51).
☐ The measurement inputs outside of the Fuel Save Controller must at least be protected with circuit breakers of type
B16A. Circuit breakers with a higher tripping characteristic may not be installed.
☐ At the measuring points, a maximum effective voltage of 480 V may be present between line conductor and line
conductor. SMA Solar Technology AG recommends installing an overvoltage protection with the overvoltage
category III.

☐ Conductor cross-section: 1.5 mm² to 2.5 mm²
☐ Conductor material: Copper
