7. MAINTENANCE
Prior to maintenance or repair work, turn off the pump and
ensure that it is not turned on by unauthorised personnel.
Work on the module may then only begin after five minutes
have elapsed because of the presence of hazardous contact
voltage (capacitors). Check that all connections (potential-
free contacts too) are neutral.
In the event of high temperatures and high system pressure,
the pumps should be allowed to cool down Danger of liquid
boiling over.
7.1 Motor + module
LThe devices are maintenance-free. High noise levels and unusual
vibrations result in wear to the bearing. Should this occur, the bearing
must be replaced.
To cool down, the module has a built-in fan wheel that is switched on
automatically as soon as the heat sink reaches 60°C. The fan wheel
blows air over the outer surface of the heat sink and only runs when
the module is operating under load. Depending on the prevailing
ambient conditions dust, which can collect in the cooling sink, is suc-
ked up by the fan wheel. This is to be checked at regular intervals and
if necessary the fan wheel and cooling sink must be cleaned.
The motor/module unit should only be replaced by SALMSON
Customer Service.

7.2 Mechanical seal

The mechanical seal is maintenance-free. However, it is possible that
slight dripping will occur during the breaking-in period. Regular chec-
king is advised. Should clearly visible leakages arise, it will be neces-
sary to replace the seal.
Changing the mechanical seal (FIG. 10)
- Turn off the pump and ensure that it is not turned on by unauthori-
sed personnel,
- Close shut-off valves before and behind the pump,
- De-pressurise pump by opening the vent valve (item 1.31).
RISK OF SCALDING with hot pumping media!
CAUTION VOLTAGE ! Protect terminal box from leaking water
while venting.
- If the cable is too short to remove the motor, disconnect the motor.
- Detach the pressure gauge tubes on the pressure difference sensor.
- Remove coupling guard (item 1.32).
- Loosen coupling insert screws (item 1.5).
- Loosen motor fastening screws (pos. 5) on motor flange and lift
motor out of pump using suitable hoist.
- By loosening the lantern fastening screws (item 4), remove lantern
unit with coupling, shaft, mechanical seal ad impeller from pump
housing.
Using the
/
buttons or the
analogous input, adjust terminal 2
(0...10 V / 0...20 mA) via external
set value (Hs) until desired
operating point is reached.

(0...10 V /0...20 mA) via external
set value (ns) until desired opera-
ting point is reached.
- Undo impeller fastening nut (item 1.11), remove underlying washer
(item 1.12) and remove impeller (item 1.13) from pump shaft. In
case of seized up impeller while dismantling, no sideway hammer-
strokes must be brought on the impeller or shaft. Use applicable pul-
ling-off device.
Danger of damage the shaft, coupling and
CAUTION !
impeller !
- Remove mechanical seal (item 1.21) from shaft.
- Remove coupling (item 1.5) with pump shaft from lantern.
- Clean the surface of the housing of the mechanical seal on the
shaft thoroughly. If the shaft is damaged, it must also be replaced.
- Remove mechanical seal's counter-ring with packing from the lan-
tern flange and the O-ring (item 1.14) and clean the seal seatings.
- Push new mechanical seal counter-ring with sealing collar into the
lantern flange's gasket ring. Normal washing-up liquid can be used
as a lubricant.
- Fit new O-ring in the slot of the lantern's O-ring seating.
- Check coupling fitting surfaces and if necessary clean and lightly
oil.
- Fit coupling boxes with inserted distance plate onto the pump shaft
and carefully insert the pre-assembled coupling-shaft unit into the
lantern.
- Slide new mechanical seal onto the shaft. Normal washing-up liquid
can be used as a lubricant.
- Fit impeller with washer and nut, secure to outer diameter of impel-
ler. Avoid damaging the mechanical seal by fitting it askew.
Observe recommended screw tightening torque
CAUTION !
(See § 7.3).
- Carefully insert pre-assembled lantern unit into the pump housing
and tighten. When doing so, hold the rotating parts on the coupling
tight to avoid damaging the mechanical seal.
Observe recommended screw tightening torque
CAUTION !
(See § 7.3).
- Loosen coupling screws slightly, open pre-assembled coupling
slightly.
- Fit motor with suitable lifting gear and screw down the lantern-
motor.
Observe recommended screw tightening torque
CAUTION !
(See § 7.3).
- Slide fitting fork (FIG. 11 - rep. 11) between lantern and coupling. The
assembly fork must fit tightly.
- First, gently tighten the coupling screws until the coupling boxes are
up against the distance plates. Then tighten coupling evenly. At the
same time the prescribed distance between lantern and coupling
of 5 mm is set automatically via the assembly fork.
Observe recommended screw tightening torque
CAUTION !
(See § 7.3).
- Remove assembly fork.
- Re-fit pressure difference sensor's pressure gauge tubes.
- Fit coupling guard.
- Connect motor cable.
