WARNING: No modification of this equipment is allowed.
Essential Performance
The essential performance of the UPS is identified as providing output power continuously when the connected accessory is
activated by the surgeon, and remains activated within the specified output tolerance, uninterrupted until deactivated by the user.
Loss of essential performance may result in output power higher than expected, including power being on when it is should be off.
The output is based on the manufacturer's expertise in this specific medical application. In addition, the UPS detects the condition
of the connected accessory by sensing and verifying a resistance which signifies the proper level of energy transmission for the
device and prevents incorrectly configured devices from operating with the UPS.
There are several user features and feedback interfaces provided. The unit has a front panel button which controls eight power
settings, and a button which controls four speaker volume settings. These settings are indicated with illuminated LEDs. There
are indicator LEDs for the power supply, accessory and foot switch. Speaker tones indicate when the connected accessory is
activated in modes corresponding to the specific accessory.
This UPS meets IEC requirements for safety which provides for safe and effective use of any conforming Microline Surgical
Thermal Ligation System Accessory with any conforming UPS, according to common clinical practice.
When powered on the UPS will remain in an active or ready mode. The unit will not activate heat through an accessory or emit
an activation tone unless a finger switch on an instrument or foot switch is depressed.
Follow the precautions provided in the applicable IFUs in order to minimize unacceptable risk.
Note: A power cord for North America (U.S. and Canada only) is supplied with the UPS. For other locales, ensure that the
appropriate power cord and connector are used, per National Guidelines (i.e. HAR, 250 VAC, 2A, 3 x 0.75 mm2 minimum).
When used in the U.S. use only with the supplied Hospital Grade power cord connected to a Hospital Grade receptacle.
Use only with Microline Thermal Cautery Instruments and the PowerPack Footswitch. Use of any other instrument may damage
the instrument/UPS and could prevent it from functioning properly during use.
Do not drop the UPS.
Do not immerse the UPS in liquids.
Do not sterilize the UPS.
If using multiple Microline Thermal Cautery Instruments, do not allow instruments to contact each other. Do not touch
electrosurgical (Bovie) electrodes to Microline Cautery Instruments.
Procedures using instruments for cutting/cauterization should be performed only by persons having adequate training and
familiarity with these surgical techniques. Consult the medical literature relative to techniques, complications and hazards prior
to performance of any procedure. Surgeons using this device should be familiar with the specific anatomy of the region in which
they intend to perform the procedure.
This UPS contains no user serviceable parts.
Note: The UPS is not intended for continuous use. A typical duty cycle of approximately five (5) seconds on, ten (10) seconds
off is recommended. If the UPS is used continuously, or the instrument connector becomes shorted, the output of the UPS may
be interrupted.
This will be indicated by an absence of audible tone. Attempt to determine the cause of the problem before proceeding. If
problem cannot be resolved or power is not restored after several minutes of cool-down, contact Microline Surgical for
instructions regarding repair or replacement of the device.
