1. Introduction
1�1 Application
• All BETEX® Spreaders, Lifters and Splitters are suitable for a maximum operating
pressure of 700 bar.
• The BETEX® 15 TL is only intended for separating 2 surfaces.
• The BETEX® 15 TLS and 25 TLS are suitable for spreading and lifting.
• The BETEX® PFS 10T is suitable for separating flanges.
• The BETEX® HLW 18T(I) is suitable for lifting heavy loads.
• The BETEX® HNS Series is suitable for splitting nuts.
1�2 Warnings
• Do not use in combination with accessories that are not suitable for the maximum
operating pressure.
• Never exceed the maximum pressure indicated on the Spreader, Lifter or Splitter.
• Never alter the safety valve settings.
• Never use the Spreader, Lifter or Splitter if it is damaged.
1�3 Operating conditions
• Industrial operating conditions
• The surface on which the tool stands must be capable of absorbing the forces released
during operation.
1�4 Operation
• Hydraulic oil stored in the reservoir is pumped to the pressure coupling by means of
an up and down movement of the lever or foot pedal (depending on the type of pump).
Most pumps have several stages, so that the hydraulic oil flow occurs faster at low
pressure than it does at high pressure.
• 15TL(S), 25TLS: A wedge is driven between the two jaws by means of hydraulic pressure.
This opens the jaws.
• PFS10T: The PFS is fixed on the flanges by inserting a stud through the bolt hole. A wedge
is then driven between the flanges by means of hydraulic pressure, thus separating the
flanges from one another.
• HLW 18T(I): A wedge is driven between the lower edge and the jaw by means of hydraulic
pressure, causing the jaw to rise perpendicularly to the surface.
• HNS Series: The jaw of the nut splitter is positioned behind the nut. The nut is then split
by means of a hardened wedge.
1.5 User and maintenance personnel requirements
• The user must have sufficient command of the language in which the manual is written to
enable him to fully understand the contents of this manual.
• The user must possess the relevant technical expertise. Moreover, they must be able to
correctly assess the dangers associated with the use of the BETEX® Spreaders, Lifters
and Splitters.
1.6 Personal protective equipment
• Always use the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) when using the BETEX®
Spreaders, Lifters and Splitters. The specific PPE required depends on the application.
1.7 User workplace
• The workplace must always be clean, tidy and free of obstacles. The advantage of having
a clean workplace is that leaks can quickly be identified and repaired, resulting in a safer
working environment.
