2. Rule for needle gauge :
if the thread jams in the long groove, use a thicker needle,
if the thread has too much clearance in the long groove, use a thinner
needle.
3. Match the needle thread to the thickness of the material.

The bobbin thread should be thinner than the needle thread. Use left-
hand twisted thread.
5.
Oiled thread :
if oiled thread is to be used for sewing, fill the oil tank 37, fig.5,
with resin and acid free oil. If, in addition, oiled bobbin thread is
to be used, oil should be dripped onto the full bobbin until the thread
has been saturated ; alternatively, the bobbin should be soaked in an
oil-filled container.

Soaped thread :
for sewing hard materials which must not show oil stains, pass the
thread through the 1 oil 1 tank filled with liquid soap. Soaped thread
reduces the deposition of adhesive substances. For sewing rubber,
turpentine is to be used instead of liquid soap.
Replacing the needle
1. Move the needle bar into its highest position by rotating the handwheel
into a forward direction.
2. Pull the needle from the needle bar in a downward direction.
3. Insert the new needle as high as possible, with the long groove facing
left.
4. Re-tighten screw 20.
Replacing the presser foot
1. Move the needle bar into its highest position by rotating the handwheel
in a forward direction.
2. Move the presser foot lifting lever 17, fig. 1, upwards.
3. Slacken screw 21 and nut and remove the presser foot.
4. Secure the new presser foot in the inverse order.
Removing the bobbin
1. Fit slider 9, fig. 1.
2. Move the needle bar into its lowest position by rotating the handwheel
in a forward direction.
3. Depress the snap spring 39, fig.6, with your left thumb.
4. With your right hand swing the bobbin housing to the left. The bobbin
now drops out by its own weight.
Winding the bobbin thread
1. Pass the bobbin thread coming from the thread reel
through the thread guide holes in the spool holder
2. between the.tensioning discs 41 and
3. wind it around bobbin 42.
4. Place the bobbin on bobbin winder spindle 43 and
5. press lever 44.
6. The bobbin winder will now cut out automatically.
Inserting the bobbin ( threading the bobbin thread )
1. Insert the bobbin so that the thread unwinds to the right.
2. Pass the thread through the long slot underneath the tensioning spring
49, fig.6, into the thread exit hole 45 and pull it outwards for about
3.
8 cm ( 3 11 ).
Press the bobbin housing 38 back into the barrel shuttle until the snap
spring 39 clicks.
Adjusting the stitch length
Forward stitch :
1. Set the lever 23, fig. 1, on the indicator 22 from ' 0 ' downwards.The
adjustable screw 24 can be used as a stop in order to find a certain set
stitch length again quickly.
Reverse stitch :
2. Set the lever 23 on the indicator 22 from ' O' upwards. The adjustable
screw 4 can be used as a stop in order to find a certain set stitch length
again quickly.
In thecaseof the two sub-classes 104 - 64and 105 - 64the lever 23 sets
the stitch length for both bottom and needle feed simultaneously.
4. Pull the bobbin thread up while holding the needle thread and rotating
the handwheel once in a forward direction.
5. Lift the presser foot by means of the lifting lever 17 or the righthand
pedal, fig. 1.
ó. Place both threads rearwards underneath the presser foot.
7. Place the material to be sewn underneath the presser foot ; lower
the presser foot.
8. Depress the lefthand pedal. The machine will now sew. The further
the pedal is depressed, the faster the sewing speed of the machine.
Check the direcktion of rotation of the machine. The handwheel should
rotate towards the operator.
9. Allow the machine to run without material only with the presser foot
raised.
10. After sewing switch the motor off.
Changing the thread tension
1. Check the seam after sewing a short length.
2. Fig. 9:
top = correct looping
centre = insufficient needle thread tension or excessive bobbin thread
tension
bottom = excessive needle thread tension or insuffident bobbin thread
tension
3. Using the tensioning nut 13 or 19, fig. 1, adjust the needle thread
tension as follows :
for reduced tension turn the nuts to the right,
for increased tension turn the nuts to the left.
4. If at all possible, do not change the bobbin thread tension. Should
this, however, become necessary, slacken the screw 47, fig.6,and
turn the screw 48
clockwise
= for increased tension,
anti-clockwise
= for reduced tension.
5. Re-tighten the screw 47.
Cleaning and oiling
1. Clean the sewing machine after protracted use or standstill periods.
2. Switch the motor off, disconnect the mains plug.
3. Remove head cover, throat plate and sliders.
4. Clean all visible parts from any residues of the sewing operation. .
5. After a protracted standstill period apply a small amount of paraffin to
all moving parts of the machine.
6. Run the machine for a short period with the presser foot raised.
7. Lubricate the sewing machine ot the oiling points indicated by arrows
in fig. s 3 and 4.
Only use our resin and acid free sewing machine oil MR3.
8. When cleaning and oiling the shuttle path proceed as follows s
depress lever 50, fig.8 ( cover spring 51 clicks reatwards ).
Lift shuttle path cover 52 off the guide pins 53 and .remove barrel
shuttle 54from the path. The now visible shuttle path should be lubri¬
cated with a clean doth soaked in oil.
Place barrel shuttle and shuttle path cover back into position.
Allow the cover spring ro click shut, making sure that lug 55 fits
exactly into bore 56.

Adjusting the presser foot pressure
Turn the adjusting screw 2, fig. 1,
clockwise = for increased presser foot pressure,
anto-clockwise = for reduced presser foot pressure.
Preparation for sewing and actual operation
1. The voltage on the current meter must' tally with the details given on
the motor plate.
2. Plug In to mains.
3. Start the motor by means of switsch 46, fig. 2.
