INSTRUCTIONS FOR
THE USER
6. MACHINE DETAILS (cfr. figures 6-7
on page 88)
6.1 MACHINE DESCRIPTION
Considering that conventionally, the right
and left side of the machine are determined
by observing the machine from the rear, the
main parts of the machine are those shown
in figures 6 and 7, and more specifically:
1 ) Strip type feeding table on which to
extend the linen to be ironed and which are
conveyed towards the roller. The linen
feeding tray provided makes it much easier
to extend the linen to be ironed.
2) Emergency finger-safety band to avoid
operator contact with hot parts. When this is
pressed, the ironing press opens and moves
to idle position while the roller and feeding
device stop moving.
3) Right flank containing the ironing steam
extraction motor.
The flank of gas-heated machines also houses
the pump that circulates diathermic oil and
the relevant storage/expansion tank, as well
as the burner unit and flame control unit.
4) Ironing roller covered with Nomex felt
suitable for high temperatures, supported by
a special yielding metal covering.
5) Left side containing the roller movement
parts, control panel and press movement
hydraulic parts.
6) Large-capacity tray for collecting up the
linen, adjustable in depth.
7) Steam extraction fitting (E in fig. 7) to be
led outdoors by means of a 100 mm diameter
pipe with smooth inner surface. When
making this connection be very careful not
to fit more than 4-5 x 90° curves as this
could reduce extraction. To achieve good
machine
efficiency,
recommended pipeline is 15 metres.
8) Mushroom-shaped safety buttons with
simultaneous mechanical and electrical
interlock on the two sides.
9) Pedal for temporarily slowing down the
roller to make it easier to extend the linen on
the feeding table.
10) Ironing machine control panel
comprising:
graphic display for continuous setting and/
or observation of the ironing parameters;
buttons for operating inside the menus and
confirming selected settings;
machine on/off button;
heating on/off button;
ironing start/stop button.
11) Outside machine guard.
12) Combustion gas flue (steam-heated
machines only) (marked F on figure 7)
13) ½" gas inlet (position G on figure 7).
6.2 COMPLETE RANGE OF
APPLICATIONS
This roller ironer has been designed to iron
different types of natural and synthetic
fabrics, wool, cotton, linen and silk. The
temperatures and other parameters required
for good-quality ironing need to be
adequately adjusted in the control panel
following the instructions that we provide.
6.3 INFORMATION REGARDING THE
ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION
The appliance's electric unit is made up of
safety and control devices installed on an
appropriate plate inside the left side. The
relevant diagrams and lists are attached
and also inside the machine's left side
panel.
6.4 CONFORMITY DOCUMENTS
The roller ironer described in the present
manual complies with the following
directives:
73/23/EEC, 93/68/EEC, 89/336/EEC, 92/
31/EEC, 93/68/EEC
and standards
EN 60335-1, EN 60335-2-44,EN 55014,
EN 61000-3-2, EN 61000-3-3, EN55104.
7. INFORMATION ON THE USE OF
THE MACHINE
7.1 SWITCH-ON AND OPERATION
Energise the machine by the master switch
on the wall and the disconnection switch on
the left side panel. Open the gas or steam
shutoff, if the machine is equipped with a
gas or steam heating unit. Sort out the linen
to be ironed according to the type of fabric.
At first keep the temperature low and iron
the most delicate linen. Gradually increase
the heat using the control panel and iron the
most heat-resistant fabrics last.
the
longest
It is also possible to start ironing even before
the press basin has reached its temperature
set point, provided that the feeding speed is
slowed down. A slower movement will make
up for insufficient press heat and provide
good ironing results even during the
warming-up stage, as the fabric will be in
contact with the heating plate longer.
The maximum allowable humidity in the
items to be ironed is 45-50%.
The following table indicates the appropriate
temperature settings for different types of
fabrics. It also contains the symbols currently
used by the textile industry:
Fabric
Perlon/artificial
silk
Silk-wool
Cotton-linen
These are the symbols appearing on the
labels attached to the fabrics. They indicate
the maximum ironing temperature allowed,
as shown in the figures below:

7.2 CONTROL PANEL
The basic parameters of the ironer are
controlled by the electronic panel on the left
side of the machine.
By means of this panel, all the parameters
required to operate the ironing machine in
a variety of conditions can be accessed.
When the machine is switched on, either by
means of the automatic master switch on the
wall or that on the left side of the machine,
the display monitor back-lighting will come
on to indicate that the machine is on, and
details will be shown relating to the machine
model and the installed software version.
If the user has entered a personalised initial
message, this will be displayed together
with or instead of the above data.
When the I/O button is pressed, the main
display page will appear on the monitor.
This shows all the parameters needed to
control the ironer.
This display page is set out as follows:
Where:
= Speed setting
= Pressure setting
= Save parameters
= Selected program
= Temperature setting
= Extraction setting
= Access to menus
Description of icons
By means of the ST46 control panel, it is
possible to move inside the various machine
parameters and set the best parameter
combinations to achieve the best ironing
results.
More specifically, the parameters that
superintend ironing are the following:
-
Set temperature
-
Forward speed
-
Pressure applied by the press basin on
the roller
-
Extraction intensity
By means of the dedicated functions,
personalised programs can also be created
so as to quickly recall the most frequently
used settings.
