Installation for use with battery power or (optional) cigarette-
lighter cable
The Sandman Duo™ or Sandman DuoST™ device can be powered by a 12-volt DC
battery using an optional cable specially designed for this purpose.
CAUTION
•
Make sure you use a battery power cable that is compatible with Sandman Duo™ or
Sandman DuoST™ device. Using a non-approved cable will increase the risk of
damaging both the device and the battery.

Use only a 12-volt battery power source and observe the correct connection
polarity.
•
Connecting a mains voltage DC power supply using 12-volt input is not allowed.
Note:
To install the battery cable, replace Steps 4 and 5 of the standard installation procedure
with the following steps:
4. Plug the battery power cable into the external battery port of the device (Item 7 of
Figure 4 on page 7).
5. Plug the other end of the cable directly into the battery.
The device can be connected simultaneously to an electrical outlet and a backup battery,
in which case follow Steps 4 and 5 of the standard installation procedure to connect to
electrical power and the steps described above to connect to battery power.
The device will then operate on electrical power and in the event of a power failure the
backup battery will automatically take over without interrupting device operation.
Note:
The Sandman Duo™ or Sandman DuoST™ device also can also be powered from a
cigarette-lighter socket using an optional cable specially designed for this purpose.
For this configuration, replace Steps 4 and 5 of the standard installation procedure with
the following steps:
4. Plug the cigarette-lighter cable into the external battery port of the device (Item 7 of
Figure 4 on page 7).
5. Plug the other end of the cable directly into the cigarette-lighter socket.

When the device is battery-powered, the heated humidification feature
cannot be used, but a cold humidification is possible.
It is recommended that you use a battery that is fully charged. The
Sandman Duo™ or Sandman DuoST™ device does not recharge a
battery when connected to electrical power. Check the battery charge
before each use.
