Conditions of use
The Sandman Duo™ or Sandman DuoST™ device is designed for use at home or in sleep
centers. It can easily be taken along on trips and used in hotels, and in cars and trucks.
When the device is battery-powered, the heated humidification feature cannot be used,
but cold humidification is still possible. The water chamber is designed to be filled only
with distilled water or tap water that has been boiled and cooled.
Since the Sandman Duo™ and the Sandman DuoST™ are medical electrical devices,
please follow the installation instructions contained in this manual concerning
electromagnetic compatibility.
Operating precaution
Like all medical electrical devices, the Sandman Duo™ and Sandman DuoST™ are
vulnerable to interference from mobile and portable RF communication equipment.
WARNINGS
Like all other devices that generate Continuous Positive Airway Pressure, ensure that
the patient is not suffering from:
1.
Pneumoencephallus,
nasopharyngeal fistula
2.
Decompensated cardiac insufficiency or hypotension, particularly in case of
decreased blood volume or cardiac arrhythmia
CAUTION
Like all other devices that generate Continuous Positive Airway Pressure, the Sandman
Duo or Sandman DuoST device should be used with caution in the following conditions:
Patients who are dehydrated or at risk of dehydration following hydric restriction or
diuretic treatment, including voluntary and involuntary changes in treatment.
Massive epistaxis or history of massive epistaxis
History of trauma or recent surgery with sequela of cranio-nasopharyngeal fistula
Severe bullous emphysema or emphysema previously complicated by pneumothorax.
Acute sinusitis, otitis media, or perforated tympanic membrane
Severe claustrophobia.
The patient must not use the heated humidification feature if the patient presents a
deviation of the supraglottic airways.
Adverse effects
Contact your medical team if the following symptoms appear while using the Sandman
Duo™ or Sandman DuoST™ device: airway or nasal passage dryness, skin sensitivity,
runny
nose,
disorientation, irritability or memory loss and/or epistaxis.
