WARNINGS
When using a heated humidifier:
Check that the water chamber is properly seated. If it is not, re-seat it, because
contact with the heating element could cause scalding.
Check that the water chamber is filled to the maximum fill level to ensure
humidification throughout the entire period of use.
The water chamber is designed to be 'single patient use' only.
Do not tilt the Sandman Duo™ or Sandman DuoST™ device when using the
humidifier.
CAUTION
If symptoms of nasal dryness or dry mouth appear, gradually raise the humidity
until the symptoms disappear.
If the condensation in the water chamber or the patient circuit appears to be
excessive, or if water droplets appear in the mask, select a lower humidity setting
(see "", on page 44).
The water chamber needs to be emptied before moving or transporting the device.
This eliminates the risk of introducing water into the device, which could cause
irreversible damage.
2. Place the mask on your head according to the instructions for use that came with the
mask. If the mask has an exhalation vent, it has an opening through which exhaled
air is expelled so that the air cannot be re-breathed.
Breathe normally.
If the message "MASK UNPLUGGED" displays on the screen, this means that the
mask is not connected properly. Reposition your mask correctly to eliminate the
leaks, and press any of the four buttons on the front of the device. The device will
restore the pressure set and the message "MASK UNPLUGGED" will disappear.
WARNINGS
Never block the mask exhalation vent, which allows air to be expelled continually.
When the device is operating, the air produced flushes the exhaled air out through
the mask vent hole. When the device is not operating, insufficient fresh air is
produced in the mask and there is a risk of re-breathing exhaled air, which under
certain circumstances could give rise to a suffocation event within several minutes.
In the first default case, if the patient is equipped with a nasal mask, the device
resistance is low enough that the patient may exhale through the machine or the
patient may even open his or her mouth. If the patient is equipped with a full face
mask, the mask must have an anti-asphyxia valve.
If upper airway dryness is experienced and the device is not equipped with an
integrated humidifier, ask your home care provider to supply you a device with
integrated humidifier.
3. If oxygen is used, start the flow.
WARNING
It is essential that the device be turned on and generates air flow before the oxygen
flow is started so that oxygen does not accumulate in the device.
