ALIGNMENT

Before starting the pump for the first time, it is important to check the alignment between the components of the unit (coupling/engine).
The alignment of pumps supplied on base plates is checked during manufacture. However, it should be rechecked during installation
as follows:
- set up the base plate on top of the slab and insert the anchor bolts in the holds on the base plate without tightening the nuts completely
- remove the coupling guard
- tighten the anchor bolt nuts and recheck the alignment as shown in fig.14. Adjust the alignment, if necessary, according to the type of
coupling as described in paragraphs 12.10; 12.11; 12.12.
- replace the coupling guard before starting the pump.

STARTING

Before operating the pump, check that the system has been correctly installed.
Check that all safety devices are operative.
11.1
Mechanical seal check
Before starting the pump, check the type of mechanical seal shown on the pump nameplate.
11.1.1 Pumps with type 1 or 2 mechanical seals
Type 1 or 2 mechanical seals are filled with grease during assembly. They do not require maintenance during the first 500 hours of
operation of the pump. After this period, grease the seal periodically through the grease nipple fitted between the pump and the engine
(fig. 15). Use NILS ATOMIC X-OT 56 grease or equivalent.

11.2
Refuelling
During refuelling, observe the safety precautions for inflammable liquids (fig. 16).
11.3
Filling the pump casing
Fill the pump casing completely (fig. 17). When the pump is stopped, the casing does not empty and therefore it is not necessary to refill it.
11.4
Priming
Attention: if the pump does not prime, do not operate it for more than 2 minutes to avoid overheating the liquid and
damaging the seal.
If the pump does not prime, read paragraph 13.1.
Engine driven pumps should be brought up gradually to running speed. Never change the accelerator limit stop: at speeds higher than
that for which the engine is set, the pump would absorb more power than the engine can supply.
Never exceed the maximum speed shown on the pump name plate.
When the pump has primed:
- check the shaft seal for leaks;
- if the pump does not seem to be operating normally, it must be stopped and the cause found (see paragraph 13).

MAINTENANCE

ATTENTION: before carrying out maintenance on the unit, it is essential you:
- Stop the engine.
- Disconnect the pump from the suction and delivery pipes.
- Drain liquid from the pump by means of the drain cover (fig. 11).
- Remove and clean, removing any liquid pumped still inside.
Attention: residual liquid may be found in the pump casing, head and suction line. Take the necessary precautions if the liquid is hazardous
(inflammable, corrosive, poisonous, infected).
12.1

Inspection and checks

Check from time to time that the pump is working correctly. Use the instruments mounted in the system (pressure gauge, vacuum
gauge) to see if the pump continues to meet its duty.
Periodic maintenance of the parts subject to wear, in particular, the impeller and wear plate, is recommended.
On request, pumps which handle salt water can be fitted with galvanic protection which consists in a series of zinc disks fixed to the
drain cover. The state of wear of the zinc should be checked every 1000 hours, and the disks replaced if necessary.
