In any case, for horizontal sections the pipe must follow a downward gradient of at least 3% toward
the compressor (next figure).
Addition of oil
In most installations in there are no pipelines longer than 10 metres, there is no need to add oil. In
cases wherein the pipelines are of larger than normal diameter or exceed 10 metres in length, a
small amount of oil must be added. For details of this requirement, always consult the specific
Technical Department.
Vacuum
For correct operation of cooling systems and long life of the compressors, it is essential to bring the
circuit correctly to vacuum conditions to ensure the contents of air and especially, moisture are
below the permissible values. The introduction of new refrigerant gases called for the use of
polyester oils having elevated hygroscopic properties and calling for greater attention when
applying the vacuum: it is good practice to apply the vacuum on both sides of the circuit. In any
case, the aim is to reach and maintain a maximum pressure of 5 Pa.
CAUTION: To avoid causing irreparable damage to the compressors, do not start
them in vacuum conditions and without the refrigerant charge.
