3.3.2.5 Socket board

The function of this component is to connect the footswitches with the programming cable. The three
different types of footswitch can be connected to either of the two larger sockets.
The footswitches are CAN nodes. The status of the switch is transmitted by means of CAN messages.
The footswitch side is electrically isolated from the Black Box side with optocouplers. The 5 VDC supply
voltage for the footswitches is generated from the 5 VDC on the Black Box side using a DC / DC
converter. Using plug connector J31, the socket board is connected to the internal CAN bus in the Black
Box using a ribbon cable.

3.3.3 Front module

3.3.3.1 Baseboard (BABO)

The role of the baseboard is to hold the core module. It accommodates the hardware components which
enable the core module to communicate with the other modules around it. The baseboard also holds the
KARL STORZ-SCB
The baseboard features five green control LEDs (V1 ... V5) for the different voltages (24 VDC, 12 VDC,
5 VDC, 3.3 VDC and 1.8 VDC).

3.3.3.2 Core module (COMO)

The core module is a CPU module based on an SH7760 processor. It contains an integral flash and
64 MB of SDRAM. The user interface and / or operating system run on the core module.

3.3.3.3 Backlight inverter

The baseboard supports the NEC 65PW061 inverter for two tubes. This inverter generates the high
voltage for the background illumination of the monitor. The backlight inverter runs on 12 VDC supply
voltage from the baseboard.

3.3.3.4 TFT display / touch screen

Display
The baseboard supports the 6.5" TFT display NL6448BC20-18D. This display has a VGA resolution of
640 x 480, is controlled by means of RGB signals and requires a 3.3 V operating voltage.
Touch screen
The baseboard supports the resistive 5-wire touch screen. This enables commands to be entered by
touching the screen with a finger or other physical object.

3.3.3.5 ESI interface board

The ESI interface board connects the Black Box on plug connector X1 with the control module on the
baseboard on plug connector X3. The CAN buses on each side of the interface are electrically isolated
with optocouplers. Statuses and parameters are communicated between the two sides via the ESI.
The ESI interface board is supplied with 5 VDC from each side. The operating status is indicated with a
number of control LEDs:
