Page 5 - figure 3
Remove the original grommet -arrow- from the left rear.
Note
Vehicles with a towing hitch are already fitted with a grommet -arrow- instead of the stop.
In this case remove the wiring grommet from the sensor wiring harness supplied. Widen the existing grommet using
a pair of crimp grip pliers and pull the sensor wiring harness through this into the vehicle interior.
If it is not possible to widen the grommet is not possible, make an extra hole in the existing wiring grommet and pull
the sensor wiring harness through this into the vehicle interior. Seal the additional drilled hole with a suitable sealant.
Reassemble the bumper cover in reverse order. When doing this, pull the sensor wiring harness into the vehicle
interior.
Fit the wiring grommet where necessary.
Degrease the fitting location of the control unit -1- in the left rear wheel arch using a suitable cleaning agent.
Attach the control unit -1- with the double-sided adhesive tape included in the scope of delivery.
Page 6 - figure 1
Note
The plugs -1- are designed such that they can only be plugged into the connector sockets on the control unit -3- in
one position.
Plug the sensor plugs -1- according to their numbering into the associated sockets "1" to "4" on the control unit -3-
until they perceptibly engage.
Push the power supply wiring harness connector plug -2- into the associated socket on the control unit -3- until you
feel it click into position.
Push the buzzer unit connector plug -4- into the associated socket "BUZ" on the control unit -3- until it perceptibly
engages.
Page 6 - figure 2
Degrease the fitting location of the buzzer -1- on the console for the left rear seatbelt retractor using a suitable
cleaning agent.
Attach the buzzer -1- with the double-sided adhesive tape included in the scope of delivery.
Connect the black single wire from the power wiring harness to the vehicle earthing point -arrow-.
Page 6 - figure 3
Unwind approximately 50 mm of the harness protective tape on the vehicle wiring -arrow-.
Cut the wire to the vehicle's reversing light.
Identify the wires as per the vehicle's circuit diagram or with a voltage tester, e.g. on the connector -1- for the tail
light
Crimp one end of the cut wire -2- in a crimp connector -3-.
Crimp the free end of the cut wire -5- together with the red single wire -4- of the power wiring harness in the crimp
connector -3-.
Heat-shrink the crimp connector -3- to seal it, using the hot air blower in the -VAS 1978- wiring harness repair set.
Replace the harness protective tape.
Set up the Park Distance Control system.
1.4 Park Distance Control system set-up
Page 7 - figure 1
To set up the Park Distance Control system reverse the vehicle until it is 50 cm from and parallel to a wall.
Note
◆
For vehicles that have a removable towing hitch, this must be fitted during set-up.
◆
To avoid errors, avoid using shiny white walls and metal objects, such as garage doors, for the set-up.
◆
Do not enter the sensor detection area -A- during set-up.
Switch off engine.
Switch on the ignition and put the vehicle in reverse.
The control unit signals the start of the learning process with a double beep.
If there is no beep after engaging reverse gear, look for a fault.
1.5 Set-up Troubleshooting
A single long tone must sound within 100 seconds - this tone denotes that the learning process has been completed
successfully.
