5.2 Scenes

The adjustments of any light effect unit can be
saved in a scene . Up to 32 scenes may be saved
in the DMX-3216 that can then be called up by
just pressing a button . It is possible to combine
multiple scenes and, using the controls, even to
mix them .

5.2.1 Programming scenes

1) Keep the button PROGRAM / REC (10) pressed
for 3 s . The LED next to the button will start to
flash to indicate that the programming mode
has been activated .
2) The LED above the button SCENE / FIXTURE
(5) must light up . If it does not light up or if it
flashes, press the button .
3) Use the number button (17) to select the
number of the unit that is to be controlled in
the scene . Multiple units may be selected at
the same time if they have the same channel
functions and if they are to be controlled in the
same way . When a unit has been selected, the
LED above the appropriate number button will
light up . To deselect a unit, press its number
button again .
4) Use the sliders (4) and, if applicable, the jog
wheels PAN (19) and TILT (22) to make the
adjustments for the appropriate channels as
described in chapter 5 .1 for direct control .
To set all channels of all units to the value
zero at the same time, use the button RE-
LEASE / CLEAR (23) .
If required, repeat steps 3 and 4 until all light
effect units intended for the scene have been
adjusted .
5) Press the button SCENE / FIXTURE . The LED
above the button will start to flash .
6) Select one of the four levels to which the scene
is to be saved . The LEDs A – D (2) indicate the
current level . Use the button PAGE (3) to
switch to another level .
7) Press the button PROGRAM / REC briefly and
then press one of the eight buttons (1) to
which the scene is to be saved .
LEDs light up above the buttons to which
a scene has already been saved . When one of
these buttons is pressed, the previously saved
scene will be overwritten .
All LEDs will flash briefly to confirm that
the scene has been saved .
22
Repeat steps 2 to 7 until all scenes desired have
been saved .
8) To exit the programming mode, keep the but-
ton PROGRAM / REC (10) pressed for 3 s . The
LED next to the button will extinguish .

5.2.2 Calling up scenes

1) Press the button SCENE / FIXTURE (5) so that
the LED above the button starts to flash .
2) Select the level to which the scene desired
has been saved . The LEDs A – D (2) indicate
the current level . Use the button PAGE (3) to
switch to another level .
LEDs light up above the buttons to which
a scene has been saved .
3) To call up the scene desired, press the appro-
priate button . The LED above the buttons will
keep on flashing as long as the scene is active .
To deactivate the scene, press the button
again; the LED will light up permanently again .
4) To fade in a scene, slowly move the slider
beneath the control to its top position . All the
values of the DMX channels saved in the scene
will be increased in proportion to the position
of the slider until they reach the saved value
at the top position of the slider .
To fade out the scene, slowly move the
slider downwards . When the slider has reached
its lowest position, the LED will stop flashing .
Note: Crossfading is only recommended for scenes
that only control dimmer functions; the interim val-
ues generated during crossfading are usually not
desired in channels for movement control or other
functions (e . g . colour change, stroboscope) .
Repeat steps 2 to 4 to call up additional scenes .
Combining scenes by means of the buttons (1)
will always provide the higher value of a chan-
nel . Fading in scenes by means of the sliders will
always apply the most recent value (i . e . the value
of the scene whose slider has most recently been
moved), with the exception of the channels for
which the value zero has been saved .
Important: DMX channels that were directly con-
trolled before a scene is called up (
5 .1) will retain their previously set values and will
not adopt the value of the scene being called
up . If this is not desired, press the button RE-
LEASE / CLEAR (23) to reset all channels prior to
calling up a scene .
