Chapter 1
Configuring and Connecting
Your Hard Drive
Sonnet has tested the Tempo Ultra ATA66 with
popular IDE hard drives. The information and
examples in this chapter are provided to aid you in
configuring and connecting hard drives. In addi-
tion, you may need to refer to your hard drive's
user guide.
Connecting a Startup Drive (Boot Drive)
to the Tempo
Under proper conditions, you should be able to use
a drive connected to the Tempo as the Startup Drive
(boot drive) for your system. These conditions,
which must be met before switching the Startup
Drive, include:
• Jumpers on the new hard drive are set in the single
or master drive configuration.
• The new drive is connected to the master connec-
tor on the Ultra ATA66 cable. For further informa-
tion on the Ultra ATA66 cable's connectors, see
Figure 1 on the next page.
• The newly installed hard drive you intend to des-
ignate as the Startup Drive is formatted (initialized)
with the same drive setup software as was used on
the current Startup Drive. (This ensures that the
same device drivers are present on both the new
and current Startup Drives.)
• The entire System folder from the existing Startup
drive is copied to the new drive.
Consult the Mac Help guide (accessed from the
Finder in the Mac OS) for more information on
designating the Startup Drive.
Support Note:
(one with data on it already) is connected
to the Tempo Ultra ATA66, you must initialize the
drive for your system to recognize it. Since all data
will be erased, make a backup if necessary prior to
connecting the drive to the Tempo.
