CAUTION
!
Risks for people (including children) with
reduced physical, sensory or mental capabili-
ties or a lack of knowledge. The fan may not be
used or cleaned by children or people with reduced
capabilities.
CAUTION
!
Hot motor surfaces may result in skin burns if
touched. Do not touch hot motor surfaces. Always
wait until the motor has cooled down.
9 Switching unit on / off
The fan is switched on or off with an optional switch.
To regulate the air power, the unit can also be
connected with an optional 5-step transformer (e.g.
MAICO TR..) – (DZ. 35/2 B Ex e/t is the exception
to this).
The fan is designed for continuous operation (S1).
Frequently switching on/off may result in improper
heating and should be avoided.
10 Reversing mode
Standard models can be switched between extrac-
tion and ventilation. In reversing mode (opposite
air flow direction), the volumetric flow is reduced by
around 35 %.
NOTICE
Thermal properties of fan designed for continuous
operation. If the direction of rotation is changed
frequently or the fan is switched on and off a lot, the
motor may heat up too much.
11 Action to take in the event of a fault
Check whether the PTC thermistor triggering device
has responded. Unplug the fan from the mains at all
poles in the event of operational disturbances.
Before switching on again, have qualified staff (
Chapter 3) determine the cause of the fault and
remedy it. This applies in particular after the PTC
thermistor triggering device has tripped.
Mounting of unit
12 Safety instructions
Under no circumstances use the unit for purpos-
es other than those for which it was intended
Chapter 5.
The installation may only be carried out by
i
a person as described in chapter 3.
DANGER
!
Danger from electric shock. Whenever work-
!
ing on the fan, release the supply current circuits,
secure to prevent them from switching on again
and ensure the unit is de-energised. Attach warning
sign in clearly visible place. Ensure that there is no
explosive atmosphere.
Explosion hazard. Degree of protection is
!
not ensured if the cables are incorrectly insert-
ed into the terminal box.
Ensure degree of protection by correctly inserting
the cables into the terminal box.
Explosion hazard when operating with unit
!
not fully mounted and if air inlet/outlet is not
correctly protected.
The fan may only be operated if the unit is fully
mounted and with the protective devices (EN 60529)
for the air channel fitted. Ensure that foreign bod-
ies cannot be sucked into the unit and ducts.
Explosion hazard/danger of injury from an
!
incorrectly mounted fan or a falling fan (unit
has a high inherent weight). Only mount on walls/
ceilings with sufficient load-bearing capacity and suf-
ficiently dimensioned mounting material. Mounting
material is to be supplied by the customer. During
installation, do not allow people to stand under the
installation location.
!
Explosion hazard due to incorrect adjustment.
The rotating fan parts were adjusted in the manufac-
turer's factory. The unit must not therefore be taken
apart. The temporary removal of the terminal box
cover during unit installation is the only exception to
this restriction.
13 Transport, storage
DANGER
!
Danger from unit falling if transporting with
unauthorised transport equipment.
Do not stand under a suspended load.
Note weight and centre of gravity (centre). Ob-
serve the maximum permitted loading capacity for
lifting gear and means of transport. For total weight
rating plate on title page.
During transport do not place load on sensitive
components, such as impeller or terminal box. Fit
transport equipment correctly.
CAUTION
!
Risk of cuts from metal housing plates
with sharp edges. Wear personal protec-
tive equipment (cut-resistant gloves) for
installation.

16 Mounting
During mounting, note the applicable installation re-
quirements especially EU Directive 1999/92/EC,
EN 60079-14 and VDE 0100 (in Germany).
Mounting instructions
NOTICE: Damage to the unit
Units with pre-installed line feedthrough to the
terminal box may be damaged if the connec-
tion line is pulled or the unit is lifted using the
line. Do not pull connection lines or lift the unit
using the lines.
Wall-mounted fans DZQ .. Ex e/t and DZS .. Ex e/t
● For permanent installation in wall or ceiling with
sufficient load-bearing capacity.
● Any installation position.
● Can be switched to ventilation or air extraction.
● Only mount unit on a level wall / ceiling surface to
avoid warping of the wall plate or wall ring.
DZR .. duct fans Ex e/t
● For permanent installation in ducts with folded
spiral-seams ducts suited to the unit type (nomi-
nal size). Mounting on a wall, ceiling or bracket of
sufficient load-bearing capacity.
● Any installation position.
● Can be switched to ventilation or air extraction.
● To avoid the transmission of vibrations to the duct
system, we recommend mounting type EL-Ex
and ELAEx flexible couplings, FU mounting foot
and GP vibration dampers from MAICO.
DZD .. roof fans Ex e/t
● They may be used on roofs (flat, inclined, corru-
gated or trapezoidal roofs), ceilings or brackets
with sufficient load-bearing capacity.
● Horizontal installation position required. Horizon-
tal air outlet direction.
● Can be switched to ventilation or air extraction.
● Can be mounted with roof flashing on suitable
roof socket or surface, e.g. with MAICO roof
socket SO.., SDS.. or SOWT..
● If connecting to ventilation ducts, folded spiral-
seams ducts with flexible couplings, feet and
vibration dampers are specified. These prevent
the transmission of vibrations to the duct system.
Checks before mounting
1. Perform the following checks: D = detailed
check, N = close inspection, S = visual inspection
