Assemble the M2
motor in the suction
ring
4
Check for blade
oscillation
5
Position the suction
ring on the eye.
Activate vacuum by
pressing the "Vacuum"
footswitch once.
6
Check the intraocular
pressure with the
tonometer
7
Lubricate the suction
ring, the head and
the blade
8
Once the system is
in position, activate
blade oscillation by
pressing the "Forward"
footswitch.
When the
microkeratome
head touches the
stop, immediately
release the "Forward"
footswitch.
Reverse by pressing
the "Backward"
footswitch.
9
Release the "Vacuum"
footswitch by pressing
once.
Remove the suction
ring.
• Before locking the assembled M2 microkeratome motor and M2 head
onto the suction ring, make sure that the rotation shaft of the motor is
in contact with the rear stop.
• If the rotation shaft is not in the proper position, the M2 will not be
oriented correctly on the suction ring and will not properly lock.
• If the rotation shaft is not in the correct position, activate the vacuum
and then the backward (reverse direction) footswitch to correctly
position the rotation shaft.
• The M2-M2SU head pivot opening should fit easily over the pivot post
of the M2 suction ring.
• Align suction ring pivot post and M2 head pivot hole. Carefully place
the assembled M2 keratome and M2 motor onto the suction ring.
• Avoid inadvertent contact with suction ring pivot post and M2 head
blade area. If contact occurs, blade edge may become damaged, and
a new blade (M2 head) or head (M2SU head) should be used.
• Engage the microkeratome head on the suction ring pin.
• Turn the locking ring clockwise until it is locked:
o ring should lock smoothly without requiring force
o two black marks on the ring become hidden and the third is aligned
with a black mark on the motor.
• WARNING: DO NOT START THE CUT IF THE LOCKING RING IS
NOT CORRECTLY LOCKED.
• Refer to EVOLUTION 2, 3 or 3E user manual (#65016, 65038, 65051,
65060) for operations prior use.
• Activate M2 motor to check for smooth, strong and uninterrupted
blade oscillation.
• Do not use the M2 motor if the blade oscillation is not smooth, regular
and uninterrupted.
• Verify that the device will not interfere with any other medical devices
used during the procedure.
• The tonometer (#19042) must be perfectly dry and used only on dry
eyes.
• If the pressure is below 65 mm Hg, do not proceed with the surgery.
• Prior to use, lubricate the rails of suction ring, head, and blade
with balanced salt solution or another appropriate ophthalmic
solution.
• The device should not be placed in contact with solutions for
which the potential interactions are unknown.
• See EVOLUTION 2, 3 or 3E console user manual (#65016, 65038,
65051, 65060).
• Hold the suction ring by its handle; check that your fingers do not
hinder the forward movement of the device.
• Check nothing prevents or modifies head movement in the rails of the
suction ring
• Ensure that there are no obstructions (speculum, eyelashes, eyelids,
etc.) in its path
• Discard the disposable blade (M2 head) or disposable head (M2SU
head) and aspiration tubing after each procedure in an appropriate
container.
