3 OPERATION
3.1 First start-up
Carry out this procedure when the watermaker is started for the first time, or during restart after a
prolonged general stop (Notably, following a procedure of preservation: biocide in the membranes).
Carrying out the start-up procedure, then returning the report form located at the end of this booklet to
(ANNEXES Page A0-01) the factory (completed, dated and signed), are MANDATORY TO THE APPLICATION
OF GUARANTEE. (Alternatively, scan the QR-code on the front of the machine for an on-line version)
Never start the watermaker in a polluted area: oil will clog membranes and chlorine will destroy membranes
(neither of these incidents are covered by the guarantee).
Checks and preparations
1. Check tightening of all water system fittings.
2. Check the presence of (unclogged) the cartridges in the filters. The center of the cartridge 20µ is
of red or pink color, that of 5µ is of green color.
3. Check tightening of electrical connections.
4. Check that the electrical voltage supplied corresponds with that of the watermaker, and that the
available power-feed is sufficient.
5. Fill or complete the oil level of the high-pressure pump. The oil level should be situated on the
middle (red point) of the gauge (See §4.4).
6. Open the hull valve (V0), position the seawater inlet valve (V01) and make sure the cleaning valve
(V50) is in production position (directed to the reject-hull-fitting). (if a hullvalve is installed, make
sure it is opened aswell).
7. Check the completely open position of the regulating valve (V49).
8. Check that the sea water arrives at the filter. If this is not the case, review the installation process
step by step. If this doesn't result in finding the problem, review the feeding pipes (bleed the pump)
and eliminate the water leakage and trapped air. (See image below)
Note: If a sandfilter is installed, perform a backwash and rinsing procedure (see §3.4.1)
The primary cause of malfunctioning is the consequence of an incomplete air bleed procedure; follow
the procedure as described to avoid problems.
9. Press the START button.
10. Check immediately that the sea water flow has been established.
Note: There is a 20 second delay before the HP pump (P40) starts
11. After a 2-minutes, check that the system has been perfectly drained and that there is no air
(bubbles) in the system. Check that there are no leaks in the system.
12. Increase the pressure progressively to approximately 60 bar (PI43) with the pressure regulating
valve (V49) (check that the first produced water containing excessive salinity is being discharged
(Reject position of the production valve (V64) visible by the red light on the salinity monitor).
Purge the low pressure pump (P04)
multiple times to make sure all air
has escaped (See §4.9).
Do NOT exceed the machines production capacity as this will alter the membranes and reduce their life
span. Warm or lower salinity feedwater will pass the membrane at a lower pressure. Therefore, the
production limit will be reached under the nominal production pressure. (See also § 3.7)
Increase the pressure (PI43) by
turning the regulating valve (V49)
clockwise
Suvey the machine's maximum
production capacity on the
flowindicator (FI61)
