the product thus preventing a good seal.
Use with full facepieces: If spectacles are worn, only use them with the spectacle kit available as an accessory with this
product and ensure spectacle arms do not interfere with the faceseal.
Use with headtops: High winds above 2m/s, or very high work rates (where the pressure within the headtop can become
negative) can reduce protection. Adjust equipment as appropriate or consider an alternative form of respiratory protective
device.
Use with headtops: Filters must not be fitted directly to the headtop or breathing hose.
Working with open fire or molten metal splashes poses a risk of ignition for filters containing activated carbon (gas filters
and combined filters).
Only for use by trained, competent personnel.
Leave the contaminated area immediately if:
a) Any part of the system becomes damaged.
b) Airflow into the headtop or facepiece decreases or stops.
c) Alarms activate (see In Use and Fault-Finding sections for more information)
d) Breathing becomes difficult.
e) Dizziness or other distress occurs.
f) You smell or taste contaminants or irritation occurs.
Never modify or alter this product. Replace parts only with original 3M™ spare parts.
For use in environments subject to high magnetic fields contact 3M™ Technical Service.
Materials which may come into contact with the wearer's skin are not known to cause allergic reactions to the majority of
individuals.
These products do not contain components made from natural rubber latex.
PREPARATION FOR USE
Respirator systems are intended to help reduce exposures to certain contaminants and should always be handled with
care and fully inspected prior to use.
Check apparatus is complete, clean, undamaged and correctly assembled. Any damaged or defective parts must be
replaced with original 3M™ spare parts before use.
Battery
Charge the battery before use. For more information see MAINTENANCE section.
The user must always check the battery status (A value) before entering the hazardous area. The user should
always ensure the battery is fully charged before entering the hazardous area and must not use the Powered Air Turbo if
A0 is displayed before use.
Note: Battery duration may be affected by many factors such as operating temperature, the age of the battery, and filter
clogging. Depending on the age of the battery and power required by the motor, a fully charged battery may not always indicate
an A9 value on the Powered Air Turbo. If in doubt, ensure the battery is fully charged by connecting to the charger and wait until
the green light on the charger is lit.
Filters
Select approved filters. Always use two 3M™ filters of the same type and class. The filter must be replaced if it has been
exposed to strong pressure or impact. It may be damaged if dropped on a hard surface including when attached to the
Powered Air Turbo. Screw the filters hand-tight on to the Powered Air Turbo. Do not use excessive force, it may damage
the Powered Air Turbo. Always properly install the filters onto the Powered Air Turbo. Ensure the Powered Air Turbo is
switched off when installing filters
Refer to the filter user instructions for more information. If you have any concerns, contact 3M™ Technical Service for
guidance.

Airflow Check – The user must perform this check before each use of the Powered Air Turbo:
1. With filters attached, allow the Powered Air Turbo to run for 1 minute before attaching the airflow indicator tube into the
outlet (see Fig 2)
2. With the airflow indicator in the vertical position (see Fig 3), check that the marking '160' on the float is level with or
above the top of the airflow indicator tube when the top of the tube is at eye level. This indicates that the Manufactur-
er's Minimum Design Flowrate (MMDF) is met (see Fig 4). It may take up to 5 minutes for the airflow to stabilise and
the float to rise to the correct point, but the blower may be used as soon as the correct point is reached.
3. If the marking '160' on the float is below the top of the airflow indicator tube after these 5 minutes have elapsed, en-
