Exchanging fabric adhesive strips for plastic adhesive strips
30
If the prosthetic suspension between the 6Y200=* Varos liner and prosthetic socket is not suffi
cient (common for people with a higher mobility grade of MOBIS 2 or up and a short residual
limb), the fabric adhesive strips can be exchanged for plastic adhesive strips.
The highly adhesive plastic strips make it more difficult to take the socket off. Therefore, initially
replacing only the fabric adhesive strips in the lateral socket shell with plastic adhesive strips is
recommended. If the prosthetic suspension is still not sufficient, the fabric adhesive strips in the
medial socket shell can also be replaced.
To replace the fabric adhesive strips, remove them from the socket and clean off the adhesive
residue. Glue the plastic adhesive strips into the recesses in the socket shells. In doing so, glue
the plastic adhesive strip into the upper and lower area of the recessed groove. Note the align
ment of the plastic adhesive strips (observe the label "TOP").
Sanding the socket brim pad
The socket brim pad can be sanded if necessary. Remove the socket brim pad from the socket for
sanding. A minimum wall thickness of 1.5 mm has to be maintained to ensure sufficient hold of
the socket brim pad.
INFORMATION
Sanding the socket brim pad creates a rough surface that needs to be sanded smooth with a
fleece abrasive wheel on the socket router.
Prosthetic alignment note
Refraining from bringing the residual limb into an adduction position has proven to be better for
the prosthetic alignment of the socket. The residual limb should be brought to a neutral position.
A point to the side next to the upper dial was assumed as the proximal socket reference point.
This point marks the height of the hip joint and lies on the longitudinal socket axis (if no rotation
via a socket adapter is installed).
We recommend that no rotation is installed between the socket and knee joint. The knee axis
should be rotated slightly to the inside compared to the longitudinal axis of the foot (patella
aligned in the direction of the gap between the big toe and second toe).
If the tip of the foot points too far to the outside or inside after putting on the prosthesis, even
though the preceding recommendations were followed, this usually just means that the socket
was applied in an incorrect position relative to the residual limb and the donning process has to
be repeated.
