The exact socket length can be determined by trying several socket lengths, preferably in the
course of using a check socket.
INFORMATION
Pressure on the medial socket brim can be reduced by reducing the socket length.
Pressure on the residual limb end can be reduced by increasing the socket length.
The socket size can be determined based on the measured residual limb circumferences and the
residual limb length. Use the chart below for this purpose.

7.2.3 Selecting the lateral side rail

The appropriate lateral side rail depends on the distal residual limb circumference. Use the chart
below to select the appropriate lateral side rail.

7.3 Fabricating the socket

7.3.1 Shortening socket components

INFORMATION
The medial side rail and the medial and lateral socket shell (size M) must be shortened to adjust
the socket length to less than 300 mm.
The lateral side rail (size M) must be shortened to adjust the socket length to less than 320 mm.
