Demounting a tyre
7. Demounting a tyre
Always observe WdK or applicable national
guidelines when demounting tyres.
Demounting a tyre is much easier if, before
demounting, a commercial lubricant is applied to the
bead and the rim flange over which the bead will be
demounted. Never use other products which its is
only assumed have a lubricating action!
• Rotate or adjust the clamped wheel (1, Fig. 17) so
that the wheel valve is approx. 10 cm in front of the
mounting/demounting tool (Fig. 16).
• Depress the pedal (2, Fig. 17) to tilt the tower into
the operating position.
• Check the mounting/demounting tool setting and/
or adjust it as described in Chapter 5. Adjusting
the mounting/demounting tool.
• Lift the upper bead over the mounting/demounting
tool tip with the tyre lever (arrow, Fig. 16).
• To facilitate lifting, press the upper tyre bead down
on the opposite side to the mounting/demounting
tool and push it into the rim drop base (arrow, Fig.
18 A).
• Depress pedal (1, Fig. 17) to start turntable rotation.
• Leave the tyre lever on the mounting/demounting tool
arm and press against the latter (arrow, Fig. 16) until
part of the tyre bead has gone over the rim flange.
• Remove the tyre lever and rotate the turntable
further.
• Continuing the demounting, make sure the part of
the tyre bead opposite the mounting/demounting
tool is in the drop base and avoid excessive bead
tension (arrow, Fig. 18 A).
• If the turntable stops as a result of excessive bead
tension, turn the turntable backwards by lifting up
the pedal and pressing the bead opposite the
mounting/demounting tool as far as possible into
the drop base, then continue demounting.
• In case of tyres with inner tubes, remove the tube
before demounting the lower bead.
• To demount the lower tyre bead, push the part of the
bead opposite the mounting/demounting tool into the
drop base and lift the tyre directly under the mounting/
demounting tool (Fig. 18 B).
• Then proceed with demounting as described for the
upper bead, with the bead always going correctly
over the beak-shaped tool (arrow, Fig. 18 B).
• When the tyre has been demounted (2, Fig. 17),
depress the pedal to tilt the tower backwards.
