Commissioning
6.3
Inspection of the LE 20
The following points must be observed in order to ensure that the
equipment is used for its intended purpose:
The device must be installed and connected by trained
technicians only.
Trained technicians are personnel who, owing to their specialist
training and experience, have adequate knowledge relating to
the power-driven machinery to be inspected and are familiar
with the relevant national industrial safety regulations, accident
prevention regulations, directives, and generally recognized
technical requirements (e.g. DIN standards, VDE standards,
technical regulations of other EC member states) such that they
can judge whether or not the power-driven machinery is correctly
without any risk of injury to operating personnel. They are
usually specialists supplied by the manufacturer of the
respective non-contact protective device (NCPD) or personnel
who, after having received appropriate training from the NCPD
manufacturer, are primarily responsible for inspecting NCPDs
and are commissioned to do so by the owner of the NCPD.
Attaching an instruction label to the machine
Prior to initial commissioning, an instruction label, refering to
the need for regular checks, must be attached to the machine.
1 . Inspection by trained technicians before initial commissioning of
the protective device connected to the machine:
– Inspection before initial commissioning is intended to confirm
the safety requirements stipulated in the national/internatio-
nal regulations, especially the machine and equipment usage
directive (EC Declaration of Conformity).
– The efficiency of the protective device connected to the
machinery is checked in all modes in which the machinery
can be operated.
– Before commencing work at the machine, the personnel
chosen to operate the machinery, which is safeguarded by
the protective device, must be trained by a trained technician
provided by the machine owner. The machine owner is
responsible for providing appropriate training.
