CRI Piezo test procedure
DANGER – Risk of fatal injury from electro-
magnetic fields
The high voltages at the CRI Piezo (charging
of the actuators) and at the adapter cables
are a source of potential fatal injury for per-
sons wearing pace-makers.
¶
Anyone wearing a pace-maker is not al-
lowed to perform "Common Rail Injector
(CRI Piezo)" testing.
!
Do not check any damaged and/or severely corroded
components.

i
The prerequisites to be observed when checking and
adjusting CRI Piezo can be found in the test instruc-
tions for CRI Piezo in ESI[tronic] 2.0. These test in-
structions do not form part of the scope of delivery.
ESI[tronic] 2.0 can not be installed on the EPS 205.
Procedure:
1. Clean the CRI Piezo (see Sec. 7.3).
i
Perform the "leak test" before fitting the injection
chamber (Fig. 41, item 6) on the component.
2. Attach the CRI Piezo (Fig. 41, item 7) to the clamp
(Fig. 3, item 3).
!
To avoid twisting and premature wear, do not
connect the high-pressure hose directly to the
CRI Piezo.
3. Connect the high-pressure hose with the connection
adapter (Fig. 41, item 8, 9) to the CRI Piezo.
!
The connection adapter must be tightened to a
torque of between 25 Nm and 30 Nm. If the con-
nection between the connection adapter and the
CRI Piezo is leaking, the screw connection is not to
be re-tightened. In the event of a leak, unfasten the
connection again, clean the sealing surface and re-
connect the connection adapter applying the correct
tightening torque.
4. Connect the hose 1 680 703 078 to the return of
the CRI Piezo and to the "CRI Piezo return inlet"
(Fig. 41, item 1).
5. With a Bosch piezo CRI, plug the adapter with check
valve into the "test connection for return quantity"
(fig. 41, item 3).
!
Do not use the adapter with check valve with third-
party piezo CRIs.
6. Connect the hose assembly 1 680 703 079 to the
"piezo CRI return outlet" (fig. 41, item 2) and the
adapter with check valve or, with a third-party piezo
CRI, to the "test connection for return quantity"
(fig. 41, item 3) of the EPS 205.
7. Connect the injector-specific adapter cable
(1 684 465 674 or 1 684 465 676) to the CRI Piezo
and to the "Socket" (Fig. 41, item 5).
!
Route the injector-specific adapter cable such that it
does not come into contact with the hot hoses.
8. Insert the inlet filter in the "Test connection for
injected fuel quantity" (Fig. 41, item 4).
9. Close the guard.
10. Perform the test.
