11. MAINTENANCE

(1) Height of the needle bar

WARNING :
Turn OFF the power before starting the work so as to prevent accidents caused by abrupt start of
the sewing machine.

(2) Timing between the needle and the looper

DANGER :
Be sure carry out the work while observing the following in order to protect against pinching of
hands, fingers and arms between the sewing machine and the bottom cover, which can result in
serious injury, when you raise the sewing machine from its home position.
• Be sure to lock the hinge stopper to firmly secure the sewing machine in its raised position.
* Read and check how to rise/return the sewing machine described on p.3 to p.5.

Adjust the standard poston of the needle bar,
usng the tmng gauge suppled wth the machne,
when the needle bar s brought to the nsde lowest
postonfollowng the procedure descrbed below.
1) Remove the throat plate. Instead of the throat
plate, attach tmng gauge support base 1
suppled wth the machne on the machne.
2) Place tmng gauge 2 suppled wth the machne
on tmng gauge support base 1 , and confrm
that the needle bar algns wth the ndented part
of the tmng gauge when the needle bar s n ts
nsde lowest poston.
There are two kinds of timing gauges 2 .
• With engraved marker "32021404" for S/R/J/C types
• Without engraved marker for T type
1) Brng the needle bar to ts nsde lowest poston,
loosen lower shaft sprocket setscrews 6 and
move looper drvng cam 3 so that the plane of
looper drvng cam 3 faces to the front. Then
temporarly tghten the screws.
The maximum stitch bite width of all types
is 3.2 mm. When the width exceeds 3.2
mm, use the optional looper (left) and
spreader (left).
Perform the work after checking the stitch
bite width and the height of the needle bar.
The stitch bite width of each type at the time
of delivery is as shown in the table below.
