Overedging
Overedging with a serger is the simplest and quickest way
to finish the raw edges of fabric.
Useful for the open seams of jackets, pants, etc.
Overedging is often sewn on one layer of fabric.

(_) Seam allowance
Serge seam allowances separately, guiding the seam
along the left edge of the serging foot,. The serger will
trim 1t8" (03 cm)_
With right sides of fabric together, sew a 5/8" (1.6 cm) seam
on a conventional sewing machine; reverse stitch at begin-
ning and end of seam to lock the stitch.
Press seam open.
Overedging seams before sewing a garment together
prevents unravelling and makes for a sturdier garment.
When overedging, be sure that the knives only skim the
edge of fabric, without cutting off part of the seam allow-
ance,
For an unlined jacket, finish the edges first as illustrated.
