2. DESCRIPTION OF THE SAFETY CABINETS

2.1.

WORKING PRINCIPLE

CLASS II Biohazard Safety Cabinets are designed for microbiology work with the most
advanced microprocessor control, ensuring a high level of protection for the operator,
environment and sample.
Exterior of cabinet made of laminated, lacquered, oven-dried steel. Functional design with
reduced external dimensions and front access for changing filters.
Spacious internal chamber with sliding-swinging front made from laminated safety glass.
Segmented work surface and liquid collection tray made of polished stainless steel. Arm-rest
is detachable.
Laminar down-flow and exhaust fans provide double security. In the case of a breakdown of
one of the laminar down-flow fans, the other ones continues to provide an airflow to the
laminar flow while the exhaust fan slightly increases its volume to ensure good negative
pressure in the work area.
Principle diagrams in Annex A1 & A2.
As can be seen in Annex A1, the air propelled by the fans (1) is moved into the chamber or
plenum (3) and, on the one hand via the Absolute HEPA filter (4), is filtered and flows
according laminar regime in the working area (6). On the other hand, part of the air, also
propelled by the exhaust fan (2) flows through an Absolute HEPA filter (5) before being
expelled to the outside (8). The frontal air inlet (7) ensures the operator protection.
The unit is equipped with prefilters (9) to protect the interior of the unit against pollution by
coarse materials and to collect spilled fluids. Furthermore the pre-filter will enhance the life
span of the HEPA filter significantly.
In the BiOptima Cyto model, as can be seen in Annex A2, both, inflow and recirculated flow
pass through a first filter step with several HEPA filters (10). Access to these filters is
completely safe in order to replace them without any risk of contamination.
2.2.

APPLICATIONS

The MSC models are appropriate for handling biologically pathogenic samples or products (up
to micro organism risk BSL3), ensuring sterile air in the work zone, as well as a high level of
protection

the
also designed to work with chemically volatile samples or products (Cytostatics).
WARNING
Under no circumstances, is possible handling in corrosive, flammable or explosive gas
ambient.
It is recommended that extracted air should be expelled to the exterior.
Right working conditions are obtained only when the display is green and without any alarm
message on the display.
WARNING
BiOptima Cyto model is designed and manufactured to work with Cytostatic particles.
