INDUCEMENT STRATEGY - GAS EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT (DWS)
The DWS warning light
emission control system.
GB
Together with the warning light (DWS) activation, it is possible that an audible alarm
sounds on the instrument panel of the vehicle in which the engine is installed.
CAUTION - PRECAUTION
If the DWS warning light or the audible
alarm on the vehicle instrument panel
turns on, contact immediately the
manufacturer of the vehicle in which
the engine is installed or a workshop
authorised by VM MOTORI FCA ITALY,
in order to solve the problem.
To prevent the operator from continuing to misuse the vehicle where the engine is
installed, in addition to the DWS warning light, the system comprises two levels of
engine torque reduction:
- Level 1: torque reduction of 25% and a disabling of the vehicle where the engine is
installed.
- Level 2: limitation of vehicle max. speed to 20 km/h ("creep mode"), if the
malfunction is not fixed in a timely manner (*).
The causes that may activate the warnings and the inducement system are:
1. Low DEF fluid level
2. Identification of incorrect DEF fluid being used
3. Tampering with the monitoring system
4. Interruption of DEF fluid injection
5. EGR valve blocked
6. Incorrect DEF fluid consumption
7. DEF fluid freezing
(*) for vehicles not equipped with speed sensor, the limitation will be 60% of rated engine
RPM and 50% of engine torque.
IMPORTANT
The warning system is designed not to
be deleted, ignored, or disabled without
correction/removal of the problem.
