6.
Position the lead. Follow the instructions in the Physician's Lead Manual.
NOTE: Maintain the stylet in a partially retracted position when placing the lead in the RV apex or RV
free wall to minimize tip stiffness.
7.
Follow the appropriate steps for a passive or active fixation lead:
For a passive fixation lead, go to Step 8 on page 3.
For an active fixation lead, use the connector tool to extend or retract the fixation helix and affix the
lead, as described in the following steps.
a.
Grasp the connector tool and the terminal boot molding. To engage the fixation knob on the
terminal pin, push the fixation knob toward the connector tool body to close the gap. Maintain
alignment of the terminal boot molding with the indicator arrows. (Figure 4 A)
b. Rotate the engaged fixation knob clockwise to extend and affix the distal electrode helix into the
heart wall. Watch or feel the rotation mark to count the number of turns. (Figure 4 B)
CAUTION: Do not rotate the terminal pin clockwise or counterclockwise more than the
recommended maximum number of turns indicated for the lead model. Continuing to rotate the
terminal pin once the helix is fully extended or retracted (as indicated by fluoroscopy) can damage
the lead, cause a conductor coil break during fixation, cause lead dislodgment, tissue trauma, and/
or cause acute pacing threshold to rise.
NOTE: Refer to the Physician's Lead Manual for additional warnings, precautions, and instructions
on handling the fixation helix, lead fixation, and the expected and maximum number of rotations
to extend or retract the helix.
c.
Once the lead is affixed in the desired location, hold the proximal end of the lead and the
connector tool and disengage the fixation knob from the terminal pin. (Figure 4 C)
NOTE: Any torque stored within the lead is released by disengaging the fixation knob after
extension or retraction.
8. Secure the lead in the correct position.
9. Partially withdraw the stylet 20 to 25 cm.
10. Connect the lead to the PSA or similar monitor using the analyzer's or monitor's cables and attach the
alligator clips to the connector tool's anode (+) and cathode (-) spring contacts. (Figure 5)
