Figure 8. Close clamp and insert needle into reservoir fill port.
10. Open the clamp and slowly withdraw the fluid from the reservoir into the empty syringe.
11. If the syringe maximum capacity is reached before the reservoir is completely empty,
more than one syringe will be needed to empty the pump.
a. Close the clamp.
b. Remove the full syringe.
c. Attach an empty syringe.
d. Repeat steps 8–11 until the reservoir is empty.
12. Empty the reservoir completely, until air bubbles are present in the extension tubing and
syringe. The amount withdrawn from the pump should approximately equal the reservoir
volume from the current pump status or the calculated expected volume.
13. Close the clamp and remove the syringe.
Note: Keep the needle in the reservoir fill port septum and the clamp closed for the pump
refill procedure that follows.
14. If decreasing concentrations or changing the prescribed fluid, go to "Performing a
reservoir rinse" on page 24. If a reservoir rinse is not required, go to "Refilling the pump"
on page 25.
Performing a reservoir rinse
To prevent drug overdose when decreasing concentrations or changing the prescribed fluid in
the pump reservoir, always rinse the reservoir twice between solutions to remove the drug that
remains in the reservoir after emptying the pump.
