7.7. MANAGING ATRIAL ARRHYTHMIAS (AA)
i Preventing AA: Overdrive
The Overdrive function is a function that prevents atrial arrhythmias.
It is designed to pace the atrium as often as possible, while
remaining close to sinus rhythm, within the limits of the programmed
maximum Overdrive rate.
Contraindications: The use of this function is contraindicated if
heart function is compromised by undue accelerations in the paced
rate, and particularly in the event of: 1. Severe coronary insufficiency.
2. Severe aortic stenosis. 3. Frequent ventricular arrhythmia.
4. Advanced cardiomyopathy.
Side effect: Palpitations are possible. This function may actually
induce high pacing rates after a premature atrial complex.
Programming constraint: When this function is programmed, the
Fallback mode switching and Smoothing functions are automatically
activated and the Acceleration and Hysteresis functions are
automatically deactivated.
i Preventing AA: Post extrasystolic pause suppression
The Post extrasystolic pause suppression function is a function that
prevents atrial arrhythmia.
Operation: This function is active in the event of a PAC or PVC.
1. Isolated PAC and short bursts. In order to amortize the atrial
interval following a PAC, an intermediate atrial escape interval is
recycled at the PAC. 2. Suppression of the post PVC pause. At a
PVC, synchronous atrial pacing is triggered and a smoothed escape
interval of 31 ms is recycled.
Warning: In case of myopotential or sensing of a T wave considered
as a PVC, this function can induce an inappropriate acceleration.
