Caution!
Before proceeding with assembly check
that the couplings (both on generator and
motor) are in order and perfectly clean.

Inadequate protection and/or bad align-
ment of the generator can cause injury to
persons and/or damage to equipment.
WARNING!
Make sure the earthing procedure is car-
ried out properly.
Caution!
Unhook the AVR voltage regulator before
carrying out this test.
Important!
The windings are tested under high ten-
sion during production. Additional high
tension tests can weaken the insulation
thereby reducing the working lifespan.
If a high tension test should prove neces-
sary for customer approval, these tests
should be carried out at lower voltages.

• Replace the grilles (6) and fit the plastic cap (7).
6.2.2 Dismantling format IM B35
For dismantling follow in reverse the instructions provided in section
6.2.1.
6.2.3 Assembly format SAE (see figure on the left)
Caution! Before proceeding with assembly check that the couplings
(both on generator and motor) are in order and perfectly clean.
• Remove the rotor anchor bar
• Remove the protective grilles (6). For the SAE3 version, remove the
plastic caps on the bell to give easier access when mounting the 11.5
disk.
• Make sure the diameter of the disk (3) corresponds with the diameter
of the seat in the flywheel (2).
• Anchor the generator to the motor by locking the SAE bell (1), making
sure that the holes in disk and flywheel are aligned.
• Check that the disk is in contact with the flywheel by hammering axially
the rotor with a plastic mallet and block.
• Lock the disk onto the flywheel.
• Check that the exciter rotor and stator are perfectly aligned.
• Mount the assembly on antivibration plugs (5) making sure that motor
and generator are level.
• Fit the plastic caps (8) on the bell (only on version SAE3) and fasten
the grilles (6). Replace the plastic cap (7).
6.2.4 Dismantling format SAE
For dismantling follow in reverse the instructions provided in section
6.2.3.
6.3 Earthing
Warning! Inadequate protection and/or bad alignment of the gen-
erator can cause injury to persons and/or damage to equipment.
The generator housing has to be soundly connected to earth on the
base of the electricity generating set. If flexible antivibration supports are
mounted between the generator housing and its base, an earth conduc-
tor should be connected in parallel through the flexible support and be
adequately sized (usually half of the section of the main line cables).
Warning! Make sure the earthing procedure is carried out properly.
6.4 Preliminary Controls
6.4.1 Control of electrical insulation
Before starting up the electricity generating set or after long shutdowns
check the insulation resistance of the windings to earth.
Caution! Unhook the AVR voltage regulator before carrying out
this test.
The results must be over 2MOhm. If this is not the case, the alternator
alone should be oven dried at 60 ÷ 80°C for 3 hours. Before carrying out
this operation remove the voltage regulator. As an alternative to oven
drying hot air at 60 ÷ 80°C can be blown through the alternator for at
least 1 hour.
Important! The windings are tested under high tension during pro-
duction. Additional high tension tests can weaken the insulation
thereby reducing the working lifespan. If a high tension test should
prove necessary for customer approval, these tests should be car-
ried out at lower voltages.
