DEF FLUID FILLING - CHECKING - TOPPING UP
The tank containing the DEF fluid is
normally applied to the frame of the
GB
vehicle in which the engine is installed.
- Wear protective gloves and clothing.
- Before carrying out any DEF fluid tank
filling operation, make sure that the area
around the filler plug is perfectly clean in
order to avoid fluid contamination.
- Distilled water must be used if it is
necessary to clean internal parts of the
DEF fluid containers or the tank itself.
Never use paper or unsuitable clothes.
IMPORTANT
To visually check the quantity of DEF
fluid contained in the tank, use the
level indicator normally located on the
instrument panel of the vehicle in which
the engine is installed (see example in
the fig.1 below).

- Promptly wash the engine and vehicle
surfaces that may have been splashed
with DEF fluid with plenty of water.
- Filling-checking-topping up operations
must be carried out with the engine off.
- Position the vehicle horizontally unless
otherwise specified by the manufacturer of
the vehicle where the engine is installed.
- Use only the specific equipment
recommended by the DEF fluid supplier
and appropriate tools as specified by
standard ISO 22241- 4. Avoid applying
weights to the DEF fluid canalisation
nozzle towards the tank.
IMPORTANT
Use a dedicated pump.
Do not use the same pump for filling
other liquids (e.g. oil, coolant).
