Notes to the user

1.1 Validity
This manual describes electrical interfaces for the Balluff
BML sensors and supplements the documentation for the
sensor families.
The document describes the following interfaces:
– IO-Link
– SSI
– BiSS-C
– DRIVE-CLiQ
– absolute Quadrature
– Analog Sin/Cos (1Vpp)
– RS422/HTL A/B
– G-interface (functionally safe position signal)
Not all interfaces are available on every sensor. The
possible interfaces and their specific parameters (levels,
timing etc.) are described in the respective user's guides.
This guide is intended for qualified technical personnel.
Read this guide before installing and operating the
magnetic encoder system.

Terms used

Absolute Measured position within
position the coordinate system of the known

Known Uniquely defined position in the system in
physical which for example a reference sensor or a
position mechanical end position defines the
coordinate system of the absolute
measured position.
True absolute Actual absolute position within the system
position
Fine position Interpolated position value of the sin/cos
interface, e.g. in 1/1000 of a period
Rough quadrant of the sin/cos interface
location
Initial homing Very first reference move to a known
move physical position
Uncertainly The absolute value may not be used
generated without a plausibility check against the
absolute safe incremental signal in safety
value applications.
Pointer Calculated pointer length determined from
length the four sin/cos signals
