BEFORE USING THE BICYCLE
The bikes with more gears also have a front derailleur, a front plate with 2 or 3 sprockets and up to 10
sprockets on the rear hub.
OPERATING PRINCIPLES OF DERAILLEURS
The operating principles are the same regardless of the number of speeds.
The front derailleur works through the left shifter and the rear derailleur through the right shifter. You
must ride forward for the gears to work. You cannot shift gears with the derailleurs if you are stopped
or pedalling backward. Before switching speed, reduce the pressure while pedalling. To achieve a smooth
gear of speed when approaching a mountain change to a lower gear change before the pedalling speed
decreases too much. When coming to a stop, go to a lower gear so that it will be easier to start ped-
alling again. If, after selecting a new position, you hear a slight sound of friction gears on the front or
rear, gently adjust the appropriate change using the turnbuckles until the noise disappears. To achieve
optimum performance and greater life of the chain, it is recommended to avoid using extreme positions
gears combinations for long periods.
