ASSEMBLY
BRAKES INSPECTION
Press the brake levers to make sure they are not stuck and that the brake pads press the hoops hard
enough to stop the bike. "The brake pads must be adjusted to stay 1 to 2 mm away from the rim when
the brakes are not activated". The brake pads should be centred on the rim and "lean forward" so that the
back of each brake pad is about 0.5 to 1.0 mm away from the rim than the front brake pad.
Do not ride a bicycle until the brakes are working properly. For the test, lock them while pushing the bike
forward to make sure they stop the bike. Never ride a bicycle that does not work properly.
Do not block your brakes. The sudden or excessive use of the front brake may launch the rider onto the
handlebar, causing serious injury or death. When braking, always use the rear brake first, then the front.

DISC BRAKES
If the bike is equipped with a front disc brake, the components should already be placed. However, check
all connections slightly before riding the bicycle. Tighten the 6 screws that hold the disc to the hub of
the front wheel and the two screws that hold their braking mechanism to the fork. Attach the front
wheel between the tips of the fork making sure that the disc fits into the locking mechanism between
the brake pads when they are closed. Connect the front wheel to the bike by pushing the quick-release
mechanism and placing the lever in the closed position. Refer to page 39 for further instructions on the
quick release mechanisms.
