CHAIN/FRONT SPROCKET/REAR SPROCKET
WEAR CHECK
Check the chain wear as follows:
fully stretch the chain with the adjusting screws;
-
mark 20 chain links;
-
measure the distance "L" between 1st pin centre and
-
21st pin centre.
STANDARD
WEAR LIMIT
241.5 mm (9.50 in)
246 mm (9.68 in)
Check any front sprocket damage or wear. If wear is
equal to that shown in the figure, replace it. Remove
the wheel and check the wear of the rear sprocket
teeth.
The figure below shows the outline of teeth in normal
and excessive wear conditions.
If the rear sprocket is too worn, replace it by unscrewing
the six screws securing it to the hub.
WARNING
Misalignment of the wheel causes
abnormal wear and may result in unsafe
riding conditions.
Normal wear
Excessive wear
Note
In the presence of muddy and damp ground, the
residues deposited on rear sprocket, front sprocket
and chain cause further tensioning of the chain.
If the motorcycle will be used in these conditions,
initially tension the chain less.
The use of the motorcycle on muddy ground
significantly increases wear of front sprocket, chain
and rear sprocket.
