5.7 Finishing the Trial Prosthesis
Maximum Abduction/Adduction
1) For screwing the lamination plate to the hip prosthesis socket in the frontal plane, use the
bore holes in the lamination plate marked in the illustration (see fig. 9).
This will allow maximum abduction/adduction adjustment of the hip joint, if necessary (see
fig. 10).
2) On the bottom side of the lamination plate, all bore holes can be used for the screw connec
tion to the pelvic socket.
Maximum interior/exterior rotation – use of the support plate
INFORMATION
The 4G576 Support Plate is intended solely for use with the trial fitting. When fabricating the
definitive hip prosthesis socket, ensure that the lamination plate is attached with sufficient exteri
or rotation and that the pelvic socket has a laminate thickness of at least 2.5 mm.
If the lower section of the prosthetic hip joint nevertheless touches the hip prosthesis socket, the
laminate can be ground at this location.
INFORMATION
Ensure that the anterior pressure block is positioned with approx. 5° of exterior rotation when
plastering the pelvic socket.
► For the trial fitting period, use the supplied support plate (see fig. 13).
→ In this way, the maximum internal and external rotation of the prosthetic hip joint can be set
and used, without the posterior linkage bar contacting the lamination plate.
INFORMATION
The trial prosthesis is only intended for trial fitting to determine correct alignment. It may only be
worn by the patient during this time and is not intended for extended use.
5.8 Reinforcing the Prosthetic Socket
INFORMATION
The following reinforcing instructions only refer to the connection and stability of the lamination
plate in the hip prosthesis socket.
For patients with a body weight near the allowable top limit and with expected high mobility, it is
recommended to apply at least 2 extra layers of carbon fibre mesh and 2 extra layers of nylon
stockinette.
Recommended materials:
>
Nylon Stockinette, 616G12 Carbon Fibre Mesh, 616G4 Fibreglass Mat, 699B1 Fibreglass
Roving, 636K8 Plasta Tape
1) Pull 2 layers of nylon stockinette over the plaster positive.
→ The 1st and 2nd layers of nylon stockinette are applied.
2) Apply carbon fibre mesh in the area of the sitting surface and lamination plate.
3) Apply fibreglass mat in the area of the sitting surface and lamination plate.
4) Apply carbon fibre mesh offset at 45° to the first layer of carbon fibre mesh in the area of the
sitting surface and lamination plate.
5) Pull 2 layers of nylon stockinette over the plaster positive.
→ The 3rd and 4th layers of nylon stockinette are applied.
6) Pull 2 layers of nylon stockinette over the plaster positive.
→ The 5th and 6th layers of nylon stockinette are applied.
