2.3.11.1. Voltage regulation

1. With the generating set off, connect a digital multimeter to the output cables or to an electrical socket on the supply side of the
generating set. Set the multimeter to measure the AC voltage.
2. Start the generating set; to do this, move the main switch to "RUN".
3. Use the ADC controller to adjust the voltage (parameter 1P) in order to obtain the required output voltage value. See figure 2.32
for details of the approximate variations in voltage for each interval in parameter 1P.
4. Adjust the voltage stability (gain, parameter 2P) to compensate the effects of light oscillation as far as possible.
5. Correct the voltage as required.
6. Set the multimeter to measure the AC frequency.
7. Adjust the engine speed in order to obtain the switching frequency indicated in figure 2.33 by adjusting the engine regulator
speed (parameter 4P).
8. Adjust the voltage/frequency torque (parameter 3P) in order to obtain an initial drop in the voltage level measured on the
multimeter. When the voltage/frequency torque has been correctly adjusted, the generating set (with load) attempts to maintain
normal output until the engine speed drops below the switching frequency set in step 7.
9. Adjust the engine regulator speed (parameter 4P) to restore the engine speed to the operating frequency (50 or 60 Hz).
10. Correct the voltage stability as required (gain, parameter 2P).
11. Correct the voltage as required (parameter 1P).
12. Save settings.
13. Switch off the generating set.

2.3.11.2. Frequency regulation

The output frequency of the generator is determined by the engine rotation speed; 50 Hz generating sets rotate at 3,000 rpm and
the 60 Hz models at 3,600 rpm. Adjust the engine regulator speed to vary the output frequency, according to the following
procedure.
Note: refer to the charts in figures 2.38 to 2.44 for detailed instructions on how to adjust the engine speed using the ADC controller.
1. Install a frequency meter on the AC output cables or to the electric socket on the supply side of the generating set.
2. Start the generating set and let it run until the normal operating temperature is reached (at least 10 minutes).
3. Adjust the speed of the electronic regulator (parameter 4P) in order to obtain a frequency of 50 Hz (or 60 Hz on corresponding
models). The engine speed can be varied in intervals of approximately 3.6 rpm, with a variation in the output frequency of
approximately 0.06 Hz.
4. Check the stability by allowing the generating set to run with no load. If the set engine speed is not stable (pumping), adjust the
stability of the regulator (gain, parameter 5P) in order to stabilise the generating set, without pumping (increasing the gain allows
the regulator response to be slowed down.).
5. Check the value of the frequency measured. Repeat these operations described in steps 3 and 4 as required to obtain a stable
nominal frequency.
6. Save settings.
