2. Operating and securuty requeriments of engine
2.1 Fuel, lubricating oil and cooling wáter
1. Fuel.
Use automotive diesel.
agricultural diesel fuel, technically it can be used, but check if the rules in
your country / state allow you to use it. Use a mesh or strainer to prevent
dirt from entering and damaging the pump or fuel injection system.
2. Oil, use 15W40 API CH-4 (You can also use 15W40 API CI-4) for diesel
engines. This oil is suitable for our turbocharged and naturally aspirated
engines for its excellent level of lubrication. It covers the most common
needs of temperature between -10 and +40º. You must use a strainer to
filter the oil before introducing it into the crankcase. Similarly, the engine
will have an oil filter for cleaning and recirculation.
3. Coolant Applications of rainwater, tap water or clean water are suitable.
Water from wells or ponds should not be used. Therefore, if you want to use
water from wells, springs or other sources of water, it must be softened
beforehand. There are two ways to soften water: (1) boil (2) per every 30
liters of water add 20 g of caustic soda and dissolve. You can add antifreeze
during cold winters. The most frequently used antifreeze liquid is triethylen
glycol (TEG), aqueous or alcohol. In any case, the recommendation is to
use liquid coolant directly with antifreeze properties sold in any automotive
supply. Diesel engine is difficult to start in very low temperatures, cooling
water can be pre-heated to 80 °C before using it.
2.2 Preparation before starting
1. Check if the silent-block that fix the diesel engine are reliable and allow
flexibility for engine vibration.
2. Rotate the crankshaft several times to check if the moving parts rotate
correctly without any obstacle.
3. Check the engine crankcase and the injection pump oil level are in the
correct level. If the fuel tank is filled with fresh and clean diesel.
4. Open the valve on the fuel tank and check for air in the fuel line, if so,
loosen the bleeder screws, one at the top of the diesel filter and another on
top of the injection pump. Then pushing and pulling activate the hand
primer of the fuel pump until the air has left the pipes in full. Then tighten the
2 bleed screws, then loosen the union nut between the tube injector and
fuel injector. Turn the engine to activate the pump until the air is expelled
In some countries there is a cheaper
