3.4 Conservation and storage of the engine

When the diesel engine is to be stopped for a long period, the following
steps should be taken for sealing and preservation.
1) After stopping the engine, discharge oil, coolant and fuel with care while
hot. Clean the oil sump and the filter.
2) Clean dust and oil from surface. Apply anti-rust oil to parts without
painting. Do not apply oil to rubber or plastic parts.
3) Remove oil when engine is warm. Then fill the oil sump with new oil until
it reaches the upper level meterscale of oil and turn the crank so that
the entire lubrication system is filled with oil.
4) Add a little oil to the cylinder from the oil injector installation hole in the
cylinder cover and then turn the crank so clean oil adheres to pistons,
piston rings, cylinder head, valves and guides.
5) The air inlets and exhaust (muffler) will be blocked with wooden, cloth or
plastic cover to keep out dirt.
6) The diesel engine will be placed in a dry location with good ventilation
and will be covered to avoid dust. It is forbidden to accumulate
chemicals near the diesel engine.
The above storage method can be used for preserving the machine for a few
months. If more time passes a review and a new oil change prior to the new
use may be necessary.
